Betty G Miller is deaf and was born to deaf parents Gladys Hedrick and Ralph Reese Miller Sr. Betty G. Miller also has two older brothers but they are normal and can hear. He used to speak ASL- American Sign Language with his brothers.
However, Betty learned English and speech from her family members who could speak. His parents did not know about his disability until he reached kindergarten. This news breaks the hearts of the whole family.
He has hearing impaired parents and has suffered a lot. They don’t want this for their beloved daughter. They are determined to give the best for him.

Betty G. Miller was first sent to an oral school located in Chicago called the Bell School. His father did not send him to a residential school for the deaf in Illinois which was his own school. He was sent to an oral school and later went to a regular school where he joined hearing students.
He attends the school along with speech lessons at another school which requires traveling by taxi and the fare is paid by the school district each day. In 1953, he attended Gallaudet College as a freshman.
At university, he entered a community of singers where he fined people his age. This was a huge culture shock for her because Betty used to speak in the sign language she used to communicate with her parents and their generation. Betty G. Miller can talk and is also good at reading lips.
Betty G. Miller had a big change at her college. Her journey from a deaf girl to a proud rebel is amazing. He was far ahead of other students in accepting signs as a true natural language and deafness as a difference, not a disability.
In 1976, he earned his Doctor of Education degree in art at Pennsylvania State University. She also specializes in working with hearing patients as she is a certified alcohol and drug counselor.

His work Amnesia Prohibited became a symbol of the oppressed deaf person’s face which he completed in 1972 when he signed it.
The original painting was placed in the National Touring Exhibition of the Deaf Art Collection. Later that year, he founded Spectrum, Focus on Deaf Artists. His beginnings have brought together many people consisting of dancers, artists and painters who contribute to deaf culture.
