Beyonce has revealed that she struggled with psoriasis growing up.

In a recent interview, the singer shared how her father helped her manage the symptoms of the autoimmune disease, which are thick, red and often itchy patches all over the surface of the skin.

In an interview with essence, Beyonce opened up about her struggles with psoriasis as she reflected on the “lots of great memories” she’s had on her “very personal” hair journey.

That wasn’t the only bombshell Beyonce dropped in the interview. She also opened up about her shocking decision to sport a pixie cut in 2013, ditching her signature long locks.

“I remember the day I decided to cut all my hair off. I didn’t have a particular style in mind,” Beyonce said of the hairstyle change. “It wasn’t an aesthetic choice, but it was a huge emotional transformation and metamorphosis that I went through.”

Beyonce went on to explain that she was trying to rebel against “being this woman that society thinks I should be,” referring to how much of her “identity as a performer” has been “linked to flowing hair”.

She also mentioned that welcoming her first child, Blue Ivy Carter, 12, with husband Jay-Z, influenced her decision.
