Donald Trump was recently called out by the estate of late Irish singer Sinead O’Connor for the use of his song at his rally.
In a statement, the estate emphasized O’Connor’s strong “moral code” while he was alive and stated that he would be “disgusted” and “insulted” by the Republican presidential candidate using his music.
Last month, during a campaign event in Maryland, Trump played O’Connor’s famous hit, “Nothing Compares 2 U.” This may have prompted Trump’s recent estate remarks.

O’Connor’s estate and his longtime record label Chrysalis released a scathing joint statement condemning the former president for using his music at a campaign event.
The statement read, “Throughout her life, it was well known that Sinéad O’Connor lived by a fierce moral code defined by honesty, kindness, justice, and decency towards her fellow man. So it is with outrage that we learn that Donald Trump has used his iconic rendition of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ at his political rallies.”
They continued, “It’s no exaggeration to say that Sinéad would be disgusted, hurt, and humiliated to have her work misrepresented in this way by someone she herself refers to as a ‘biblical demon.’”

O’Connor’s estate isn’t the first to distance artists from Trump. According to the BBC, in 2016, English rock group, The Rolling Stones, revealed that they sent the 77-year-old a cease and desist letter for playing their song ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’ at one of his rallies. Trump reportedly used the same song again in June 2020. This led to the group threatening him with legal action if he used their music again.
Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” was played by Trump at a political rally in 2016. After the legendary musician endorsed Hillary Clinton, then Trump’s opponent, the song began receiving negative feedback whenever the former president played it at a rally. .

O’Connor’s death was revealed on 26 July 2023, with the singer’s family saying in a statement to RTE, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. His family and friends are devastated and have asked for privacy at this very difficult time.”
On Tuesday, January 9, Southwark Coroner’s Court confirmed that O’Connor died of “natural causes.” They added in a statement that “the coroner has terminated their involvement in her death.”
O’Connor gained fame for her performance of the classic “Nothing Compares 2 U,” written by legendary singer Prince. At the 1990 Grammy Awards, the song earned her nominations for Record of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, and Best Music Video, Short Form.
However, O’Connor had a very difficult life, which was full of controversy. One of the singer’s most controversial moments was during his “Saturday Night Live” performance of Bob Marley’s “War” in 1992, where he tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II in protest against the Catholic Church.
O’Connor’s actions got him permanently banned from ‘SNL’ and caused him significant backlash, which affected his career.
