Biden again calls VP ‘President Harris’ at Stanley Cup celebration

WASHINGTON – President Biden referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “the president” at a White House event Monday honoring the Stanley Cup-winning Vegas Golden Knights.

“Welcome to the White House, 2023 Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights!” said Biden, who turned 81 on Nov. 20.

“President Harris is here to make sure we do this the right way.”

Biden has made similar mistakes in at least six previous public appearances.

Harris, a former California senator and attorney general, sat in the front row of the East Room event.

Biden is the nation’s oldest president and is seeking a second four-year term next year.

Former President Donald Trump, 77, is the front-runner for the Republican nomination.

Harris, 59, would become president if Biden resigns, dies or becomes incapacitated while in office.

David Axelrod, former chief strategist to President Barack Obama, said Sunday that Biden’s public statements were a major concern for Democrats as critics accused him of mental decline.

“In front of the camera, what he’s showing is causing people to worry, and that’s troubling,” Axelrod said on CNN.

A New York Times poll released Nov. 5 found 71% of swing state voters said Biden is “too old to be an effective president,” while only 39% said the same about Trump.
