Biden scraps Colorado trip over Israel war, condemns ‘horrific’ murder of Muslim boy, 6

President Biden postponed a planned trip to Colorado on Monday, choosing to remain in Washington because of the ongoing war in the Middle East.

Biden, 80, is slated to go to the far-right congressional district of Rep. Lauren Boebert and touted her administration’s environmental record at the world’s largest wind tower manufacturing plant.

“It will be rescheduled,” an administration official said of the planned visit. “The president will remain at the White House to participate in national security meetings.”

It was unclear whether the president would make any public statements on Monday.

Israel is expected to launch an invasion of the Gaza Strip following the killing of more than 1,300 people on Oct. 7 in a terrorist attack by Hamas.

The slaughter has heightened tensions between supporters of Israel and Palestine in the US, highlighted by Saturday’s brutal killing of a 6-year-old Muslim boy in Illinois.

A suspect identified as 71-year-old Joseph Czuba is accused of stabbing 6-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoume 26 times and injuring the boy’s mother.

Czuba shouted, “You Muslims must die!” before the fatal attack, text messages sent to Wadea’s father showed.

The alleged killer used a large military-style knife, and detectives believe the family was “targeted by the suspect because of their Muslim faith and the ongoing Middle East conflict involving Hamas and Israel,” according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

In a statement late Sunday, Biden said he was “shocked and sickened” to learn of the killing.

“This horrific act of hate has no place in America, and goes against our fundamental values: freedom from fear for how we pray, what we believe, and who we are,” the president continued.

“As Americans, we must unite and reject Islamophobia and all forms of bigotry and hatred. I have said time and time again that I will not remain silent in the face of hatred. We must be firm. There is no place in America to hate anyone,” Biden added.

At least 30 Americans were killed in the October 7 attack, while 13 are still missing, according to the State Department.

A total of 199 individuals are believed to be held hostage by Hamas in Gaza, including several Americans.

Czuba has since been charged with two counts of hate crime, first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to the sheriff’s office.

Biden has publicly asserted that Israel has the right and obligation to respond with military force to the October 7 attack, while pushing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu behind the scenes to minimize Palestinian civilian casualties.

In public, the president has also warned against any further occupation of Gaza, something Israeli Ambassador to the US Michael Herzog has said the Jewish state has no intention of doing.

“Look, what’s happening in Gaza, in my view, is that Hamas, and the extreme elements of Hamas, do not represent all of the Palestinian people,” Biden told CBS’ “60 Minutes” in an interview that aired Sunday. “It is a mistake … for Israel to occupy Gaza again.”
