Bill Maher says Elon Musk’s controversial post ‘did test my patience’ with him, looked ‘really antisemitic’

“Real Time” host Bill Maher blasted billionaire X owner Elon Musk over his controversial post last month, saying it seemed “very antisemitic.”

Maher, who strongly supports Musk’s takeover of the platform formerly known as Twitter, brought up the tech mogul’s recent visit to Israel during Friday’s “Overtime” segment, asking the panel if he no longer holds “antisemitic or conspiracy beliefs .”

“The Rubin Report” host Dave Rubin dismissed the question by insisting Musk never held “antisemitic or conspiracy beliefs,” then defended it by saying his position at X was aimed at left-wing Jewish groups like the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

“There are a lot of antisemites out there, but Elon Musk is not one of them,” Rubin said.

“That might be true,” Maher replied. “Look, he’s a tough guy to follow all the time. I have tried. And this thing really tests my patience with him because he may not be antisemitic, but when someone tweets what they tweet and he tweets ‘You have spoken the truth,’ it seems really antisemitic. I mean, come on.”

Musk has come under fire in recent weeks for appearing to endorse what have been widely labeled as antisemitic posts on X.

A post from user X reads, “The Jewish community has rejected the exact kind of dialectical hatred against white people that they claim they want people to stop using against them. I’m very disinterested in giving the tiniest bit – now about the western Jewish population coming to the disturbing realization that the pro-minority hordes flooding their country don’t like them very much. You want the truth told to your face, that’s it.”

Musk replied, “You have told the real truth.”

He later clarified that he was referring to the ADL regarding its progressive politics, writing “The ADL unfairly attacks the majority of the West, even though the majority of the West supports Jews and Israel. This is because they cannot, on their own principles, criticize the minority group that is their main threat.”

But that hasn’t stopped his critics from leveling accusations of antisemitism at him and attacking his social media platforms for not cracking down on antisemitism rhetoric.

In addition, major advertisers including IBM, Apple, Disney, Lionsgate and Paramount have fled X after the liberal advocacy group Media Matters published a report claiming their ads appeared alongside antisemitic content.

However, a lawsuit filed against Media Matters by Musk claims the group “completely misused the real user experience” to mislead advertisers.

In an appearance Wednesday at The New York Times Dealbook Summit, Musk offered a scathing tirade to companies boycotting X.

“Don’t advertise. If someone will try to blackmail me with advertising? threaten me with money? Go alone,” Musk said, adding: “Go alone, is that clear? Hey Bob, if you’re in the audience. That’s what I think, don’t make ads.”

That was in response to Disney CEO Bob Iger, who earlier at the event defended his company’s decision to no longer advertise on X.
