In an Instagram post she captioned “Dear friend,” the 24-year-old conservationist admitted that she spent “a long time wondering” if she should share her struggle with endometriosis “in such a public space.”

“It’s a responsibility I feel to share my story for other women who need help,” she wrote, adding, “For 10 years I’ve struggled with intractable fatigue, pain & nausea. Trying to stay positive & hide the pain goes a long way. These last 10 years have included many tests, doctor visits, scans, etc.

A doctor told her that her symptoms were “something you deal with as a woman,” which led her to completely give up and try to “function through the pain.” She credits her close friend Leslie Mosier for helping her “find answers” and “setting me on the path to getting my life back.”

“I decided to have surgery for endometriosis,” she told her followers. “Going in for surgery was scary but I knew I couldn’t live like I was. Every part of my life was being torn apart by pain. Long story short, they found 37 lesions, some very deep & difficult to remove, & brown cysts.”

While she was in recovery, she revealed that a doctor at the Seckin Endometriosis Center asked her, “How do you live with this pain?” Bindi described the confirmation for “years of pain” as “inexplicable” before thanking her friends and family for more than a decade of support.

“My family & friends who have been on this journey with me for 10+ years – THANK YOU, for encouraging me to find answers when I thought I would never get out,” she wrote. “Thank you to the doctors & nurses who believed in my pain. I am on the road to recovery & the gratitude I feel is very proud. To those questioning canceled plans, unanswered messages & absences – I have poured every ounce of energy I have left into my daughter & our family.”

“Things may look good on the outside looking in through the window of one’s life, however, that is not always the case,” Bindi reminded her followers. “Please be gentle & pause before asking me (or any woman) when we’re going to have more kids. After everything my body has been through, I feel so grateful that we have our beautiful daughter. He feels like the miracle of our family.”
