“Black Panther” actress and stuntwoman Carrie Bernans was the victim of a hit-and-run in New York City that left many injured.
According to reports, Bernans suffered serious injuries, including several broken bones, but is now in stable condition.

Bernans was the victim of a hit-and-run incident that happened on Monday in New York City. She was reportedly still “in too much pain” after being rushed to the hospital, according to a statement shared by the actress’ mother on her social media page.
According to reports, a driver hit the outdoor dining area of the Chirp restaurant in Manhattan, injuring the 29-year-old “Black Panther” actor, along with eight other individuals.
A statement from Bernans’ mother read, “He is still in pain and unable to answer calls at this time, but appreciate it[s] messages. This is a traumatic event. Please keep Carrie in your thoughts and prayers. He was very sick but recovered. He was involved in a traumatic incident in NYC where a man, [his] early 40’s trying to get away from a hit and run and hit several cars before crashing into a food stand that his friend & him were passing by.”
It continued, “It ended up causing him to pass out and put him under the seat. He was under it without realizing what was happening. he [has] several broken bones, broken & broken teeth but thank God he is alive.”
Perpetrator Arrested After Trying to Escape
According to Bernans’ mother’s statement, the driver ended up injuring nine people, including three police officers and his daughter, while trying to escape from the police who eventually arrested and detained him.
“Nine people were injured in his attempt to escape the hit and run, including three police officers. The police caught him soon after and detained him,” the statement said.
The “Color Purple” actress is now “holding on to a tremendous sense of gratitude for life” after the chaotic New Year’s Day incident.
His mother said, “This setback does not stop his belief that something extraordinary is still created by God. Despite the injuries sustained in a hit-and-run collision in NYC, he is filled with hope and faith in opening a beautiful new chapter. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he is [navigates] this path to recovery and new beginnings.”
He appealed to followers to tag their teeth makeover spots in Atlanta and Los Angeles, hinting that he’s done with surgery and will be getting his teeth cleaned next.
The lengthy statement ended with the actress’ mother thanking first responders, police, strangers and loved ones who helped her daughter and other hit-and-run victims. He also stated that Bernans, a new mother of one, was lucky not to be with her son when the incident happened.
“PS, his son is not there. He was safe in a warm hotel room with his family. And thank you to everyone who extended help,” the statement said.
