The music icon, punk pioneer and fashion pioneer is celebrating his 78th birthday on July 1st!
Blondie fans have flooded social media to pay tribute to their queen, and wish her a happy new year!

Harry helped pioneer the emerging punk rock scene in New York City in the mid-seventies and soon rose to fame as a member of Blondie when the group achieved global stardom in the early 1980s.
Blondie’s third album, “Parallel Lines,” contained the band’s staples “One Way Or Another,” and the disco song “Heart Of Glass.” Blondie would experiment with reggae and would release one of the first commercially successful rap songs with “Rapture.”
Harry Reflects on His Life Spent in the Spotlight

After Blondie’s breakup in 1982, Harry began a solo career. He would also star in films including 1983’s “Videodrome” and John Waters’ “Hairspray.”
The “X Offender” singer reunited with Blondie in the late nineties and has fronted it ever since. The group continued to tour and perform at major festivals; Blondie recently appeared at Glastonbury.
The opportunity to perfect his live act over time isn’t the only advantage of a decades-long career in the spotlight; Harry is often given the chance to reflect on his place in pop culture and the wisdom he’s gained along the way.
The “Atomic” singer spoke to The Guardian last year and discussed life at the height of such a pivotal cultural moment. He also reflected on certain chapters in his life that could have resulted in the ‘book’ of his life ending earlier than it should have.
“I can’t say it’s a good idea to be as curious or a nerd as I am,” Harry said. “Like brave athletes or people who jump out of planes, we are all testing our limits, and mine is huge. I hardly noticed any lucky escapes,” he continued. “I really left after the discovery.”
Harry’s sense of discovery can be credited as a key component of Blondie’s success. Regarding their legacy, he said, “I’m definitely pretty confident. Our goal is to be as interesting and as aggressive as possible. But I always consider myself in partnership with [guitarist] Chris [Stein] and that I am trying to express the whole group’s view…”

Stein, who has been in a musical partnership with Harry since the early days of Blondie, posted a black-and-white photo of Harry to his Instagram.
Stein is also a photographer, and documents his Blondie photos in a photo book called “Negatives.”
