Actor Billy Gardell recently explained his weight loss journey and how he was able to keep it under control. The actor is known for his roles in shows like “Yes, Dear,” “Bob Hearts Abishola,” “My Name is Earl,” and “Mike & Molly.”
During a recent interview, the actress revealed that she was diagnosed with a major health problem before making the move to get healthy. Gardell began by undergoing weight loss surgery and then changed his lifestyle to maintain his body after the procedure.

While talking to Entertainment Tonight host Kevin Frazier in an interview, Gardell reflected on his journey to getting healthy and how his significant weight loss was a byproduct of his efforts. The 53-year-old revealed that during the pandemic period, he made sure he changed his mindset and tried to stay safe while losing as much weight as possible.
The comedian said, “I am fighting the middle class today; I’m down to 212! [It’s been] long journey.” Almost ten years ago, Gardell weighed more than 370 pounds so getting to his current weight is no small feat.
She revealed that her lifestyle changed after she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. “At first, I had Type 2 diabetes, and then I took medication for it for about a year and started taking better care of myself,” Gardell said. “I lost about 30 pounds. But then COVID hit. and when they punched in all the signs that make you ‘at risk,’ I had them all except ‘over 65.’ I have a full bingo card.”

Not all of Gardell’s spectacular weight loss is due to the actor’s lifestyle changes. The 53-year-old revealed that after he decided to live differently to reduce his chances of contracting COVID-19, he turned to surgery. The actress said she underwent “bariatric weight loss surgery last July.”
After the surgery, Gardell made sure that he stayed the same by “changing everything I did.” He explained that he does not necessarily encourage anyone to go under the knife and that it is his personal choice. “For me, that’s what I have to do, but it’s just a tool. The real battle is still going on [the mind] because people come back this big.”
Gardell added that after undergoing weight loss surgery, most people have a “small window” they can use to change their lives for the better, which he has been able to do so far. He added, “I do it every day, and I’m so grateful that it happened to me. No more diabetes, no more bad blood numbers.”

Further in ET interview, Gardell shed some light on what the environment was for switching to food and how right now, the mental side of weight loss is the most challenging. The actor recalled his childhood, explaining that he grew up in a home where food was used for celebration and comfort.
To help himself, Gardell revealed that he started thinking of food as “fuel” and continued to work on it day after day. “If you don’t have a problem with food, thank the god you worship and be thankful you don’t,” said the 53-year-old. “Because it’s a serious addiction, just like anything else. But I found my way. I do my thing and in the morning, and I try to stay between the lines, and I’m thankful I can do that.”
Gardell revealed that he felt great joy when he was able to do the little things that he had difficulty doing before. This includes buying clothes at regular stores and tying her shoelaces without having to “take a deep breath”. The 53-year-old said he felt better overall and wanted to “keep quiet and bother my wife for another 20 years.”
‘Bob Hearts Abishola’ Has Been A Gift To Him

During the interview, Gardell also talked about his current series, “Bob Hearts Abishola,” in which he plays Bob Wheeler. The CBS sitcom is currently in its fourth season, and the actor revealed he’s grateful to be part of the cast.
Gardell described the sitcom as a “gift” and admitted that he considers his most famous show to be “Mike & Molly,” so this was a welcome surprise.
“It is a gift. I thought my ticket was stamped after Mike & Molly,” said the 53-year-old. “I didn’t know I was going to get on board with another great cast and a show that I think has such a beautiful sentiment about it. I’ve always been drawn to things where love conquers all, no matter what.”
