The Emmy-nominated actress revealed that she is trying to make some space in her life and cut down on work due to her health issues in 2021.

At the time, the “Better Call Saul” star suffered a massive heart attack and is still coping with the experience.

He expressed gratitude for the lessons he has learned since then, especially the importance of making the right decisions with the time he has left.

In an interview with People’s MagazineOdenkirk revealed that he plans to slow down rather than get involved in more projects.

“Big life changes are happening,” says the actor who recently authored a children’s book and starred in AMC’s “Lucky Hank.”

“I try to be more present and give some space in my life because when you’re racing from one thing to the next, you take the joy out of the experience.

Odenkirk’s decision comes after his close call with death in July 2021 while filming scenes for his hit series “Better Call Saul.”

He had a massive heart attack that he didn’t remember, only to wake up at the time to find himself in an Albuquerque hospital. He was given five weeks off to recover, and when he returned, filming was limited to 12 hours a day to reduce stress.

Fast forward to 2023, the Emmy award-winning show is set to debut its final series. Still, despite the time that has passed, Odenkirk says he still can’t come to terms with almost losing his life.

“I’m still taking it in,” the actress told the publication. “Also, I’m still surprised by how many people have good intentions towards me and want me to be okay. I don’t know what to say, [but] I can only appreciate it and try to make something good come out of it.”

Although the experience has brought about some lifestyle changes, the actress is grateful that it has allowed her to appreciate more of the good things in life, including reading more books and bonding with her children.

“My kids are very capable young people, but I’m still fired up,” Odenkirk says happily. “I am very happy now.”

In January, the Emmy Award-winner also cited another flare-up to a heart attack, saying she was back feeling “freakishly fit” and walking with a spring in her step.

“I think it’s a gift, but it’s also weird for everyone around me,” Odenkirk recalled before revealing how his eagerness to return to work worried his colleagues, per Many people.

At the time, he also mentioned how the realization that death was inevitable pushed him to make better decisions.

“I have to do a better job because we can’t go on forever. We didn’t,” added the actor. “I need to make the right choices so I can feel I’m doing the best I can with the time I have left for the things I love in this world.”

Bob Odenkirk On His New Children’s Book

The famous actor has a new children’s book titled, Zealot & Other Important Poems on the way.

Talk with Many people in February, the actress shared that the book’s content was inspired by a unique bedtime ritual of writing poetry with her children, Erin and Nate.

“They’re pretty stupid, and a lot of them are pretty crazy. But I keep it because some of them aren’t just rants. Some of them have ideas, and I think, there’s a great book of poetry in this,” the “Breaking Bad” star said.

When her children asked about the book during the COVID-19 pandemic, she thought of publishing it. Although it took some time to assemble everything, the book is finally ready and will be on the shelves during the fall.
