The body of a missing Indiana teacher was reportedly found face down in a river in Puerto Rico after she disappeared from her Airbnb en route to the island.
Amanda Lynn Webster, 44, an art teacher at Thompson Crossing Elementary School in Indianapolis, was reported missing Wednesday by her Airbnb host, Fox 59 reported.
The landlord noticed that Webster “failed to leave the house as agreed and left his belongings and the rental car on the property,” according to an English translation of a local police statement on Facebook.
On Friday, Police Commissioner Antonio Lopez Figueroa activated the “Ashanti Alert” asking the public to help find the woman, who was last seen at the Casa Parcha guesthouse near El Yunque National Park in Naguabo.
Authorities on Saturday said they made the gruesome discovery of the body, which they did not immediately identify.

“A lifeless body, possibly that of a woman, was found this morning in the river in the neighborhood of Río Blanco in the Camino Viejo Sector of Naguabo,” police said in a statement.
“The body was found floating in the rocky area of the river, so the Police CIC team, together with the Prosecutor’s Office and staff from the Forensic Institute, are carrying out the extraction and identification process,” the police said.
“At this stage it is not possible to identify the gender of the body or to conclude whether it shows signs of violence,” the statement added.

But a source close to the Webster family told Fox 59 that the person found was Webster.
“I’m glad he was found and that his family, his students and the community and all his friends can have some form of closure even though it’s pretty upsetting,” Webster’s best friend Sharon Rickson told WTHR. “There are hundreds if not thousands of lives that he directly impacted. Many people will feel this loss.”
Webster also works with special education students in Franklin Township schools.

“He is so strong. He is such a positive force. You will feel his presence and warmth immediately. He gives the best hug,” Rickson told the outlet.
“She was very unique, happy-go-lucky, never met a stranger and a very beautiful radiant personality. We will really miss him,” he added.
Webster’s mother, Pamela, posted a heartfelt message for her daughter online last month before she disappeared.

“Amanda Webster, my beautiful daughter. I did not know that there is a daughter’s day. Sorry I missed it but every day is a girl’s day in my life since the day you were born. Love you to the moon and back forever,” he wrote.
“Awww thank you Mom! Love you too!! I didn’t even know there was a girl’s day—but I’ll take it haha,” Webster replied.
On Saturday, the grieving mother wrote: “Thank you all for your support and prayers. They just found Amanda’s body in the river, she had been underwater for some time.”
The school district said counseling services will be provided to students and staff starting Monday.
