The body of a baby girl — believed to be dead — was found in the toilet of an English pub at the weekend, as officers searched for the baby’s mother, who they feared “immediately” needed medical attention.
Emergency crews were called to the Three Horse Shoes pub in Oulton, Leeds, just before 5pm on Sunday and found the baby dead.
Police called the discovery a “tragic incident” and the evidence suggests the baby’s death was a “stillbirth,” which may have occurred in the bathroom stall where he was found, the Guardian reported.
Detective Constable James Entwistle with West Yorkshire Police said they were “immediately appealing” for the baby’s mother to either contact them or seek medical attention.
“From a police perspective, I just want to be absolutely clear. I’m not here to arrest you, I’m not here to arrest anyone else,” Entwistle said during the press conference.

“I’m here to make sure I understand what’s going on and make sure you get the medical attention you need.”
Karen Sykes, head of safeguarding at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust, urged mothers to come forward.
“We are truly concerned about your health, physical and emotional well-being at this time and urgently request that you seek medical help and advice,” Sykes said.
The pub owner addressed the sad situation, writing on social media: “I’ve been writing post after post for the past hour but I don’t think now is the best time given the situation…..We’re definitely speculating about something happening in our establishment this evening this.”

“All I can say at this point is, I’m sorry to everyone who was with us when this happened and to everyone who was supposed to get in and couldn’t,” they continued.
“A big thank you to those who helped us as we struggled as a team. It’s really underappreciated.”
West Yorkshire Police have launched a “full investigation” into the findings, with help from the NHS, although their main concern is the health of the mother.
“Our top priority is the welfare and safety of the mother,” added Entwistle.
“We are immediately appealing for the mother of the baby girl to contact us or seek medical help as she has gone through a very traumatic experience and may need treatment herself,” he said.
The pub remains closed on Mondays.
