Boy, 2, died of starvation, found ‘curled up’ next to dad who had fatal heart attack

A 2-year-old English boy was found starving to death next to the body of his father, who had suffered a fatal heart attack two weeks earlier.

Little Bronson Battersby was found dead curled up next to his 60-year-old father, Kenneth, at their home in Skegness, Lincolnshire on January 9 — 14 days after they were last seen by the family on holiday.

The couple were last seen alive on December 26 — shortly before Kenneth suffered a fatal heart attack, leaving his son alone with no one to care for him.

Although a social worker made several attempts to visit the family home, and called the police when no one was there to answer the door, Bronson’s mother, Sarah Piesse, 43, said more should have been done.

“We should be able to rely on social workers to keep our children safe,” he told The Sun.

“They think Kenneth died no earlier than December 29. That means if the social worker had refused to come in when he didn’t get an answer on January 2 then Bronson is still alive,” added the grieving mother.

The social worker visited their home on Jan 2 after contacting the father on Dec 27 and failed to make contact. She then returned home two days later but still could not contact Kenneth.

The social worker called the police after each visit but was only able to enter the house after getting a key from the landlord several days later, their family told the outlet.

Authorities in Lincolnshire have since launched a review into the child’s death.

Bronson’s heartbroken mother shared how she couldn’t hold him when she went to identify him because he was so fragile.

“I couldn’t lift him because his body was too fragile,” he said while crying. “I can only touch him. He has been left there too long.”

An autopsy found Bronson died of dehydration and starvation, his mother said.

Family friends say Bronson loved the cartoon, “Cocomelon,” nursery rhymes and playing with his drum kit.

“It breaks my heart. Bronson deserves that, much better. He is a loving and cute little boy. They found him curled up at Kenneth’s feet,” said the friend. “He was left in the dark and must have been scared and very confused.”

The child’s father was unemployed and had a pre-existing heart condition that left him severely jaundiced in the months before his death.

Social services classifies Bronson as vulnerable, meaning he receives weekly visits.

The social worker involved was not suspended but was reportedly taking a leave of absence.
