The boyfriend of a North Carolina woman who had been missing for more than a month has been arrested for her murder.
James Dunmore was seen in handcuffs outside his University City home as several police officers looked on Thursday afternoon, video shows.
He has been charged with the murder of Allisha Watts, 39, who was last seen leaving her home on July 16, authorities later confirmed.
Her body was found earlier in the day near the border of Richmond and Montgomery counties in Norman, a small town along Interstate 74.
“As a result of the ongoing investigation into Moore County resident Allisha Watts, along with the cooperative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, this case is no longer considered a missing person investigation and has been transitioned to a homicide investigation,” Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields said at the time. that.
Watts, an advocate for people with mental health issues and the elderly, had been scheduled to attend a comedy show at the Bojangles Coliseum in nearby Charlotte after his visit with Dunmore on July 16, but family members said he never showed up.

“It’s not normal. That’s not him,” Watts’ cousin, Gwendolyn Utley, told WSOC.
He said he decided to go home and saw Watts’ car still parked at Dunmore’s house.
But the car disappeared hours later, according to WCNC.
Dunmore was found two days later unresponsive in Watts’ Mercedes-Benz SUV outside the Department of Motor Vehicles office in Anson County, and Watts was reported missing the next day.

By July 20, investigators found bullet casings near Dunmore’s home. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say it was from a 9mm handgun.
Police returned to Dunmore’s home on July 26 and seized clothing, cellphones, cameras, laptops, memory cards and photographs as they investigated Watts’ disappearance.
A search warrant for the items stated that Dunmore had attempted to kill himself before he was found in Watts’ vehicle, and officials declared him a person of interest in the case.

Dunmore has a prior criminal history in Virginia that includes convictions for kidnapping, assault and battery and stalking, WRAL revealed.
A domestic violence protection order has also been filed against him in Durham County, North Carolina, by a woman who says he was in a relationship with him.
The woman claimed she was kidnapped and Dunmore threatened to kill her, according to documents obtained by a local news station.
“We weren’t aware of that,” Utley said. “If we had known his background and the rap sheet he had, there’s no way it would have sat well with us or Allisha.”
He remembered his cousin for his generosity and said Watts was willing to open a group home for the mentally disabled.
