Later, Devon Reed, his mother, noted that a visit to a local walk-in clinic resulted in a biopsy to a Miami hospital, which revealed a cancer diagnosis. Brandon started therapy right after Thanksgiving, remaining optimistic about his outlook. Likewise, he expressed his desire to recover within two and a half years of undergoing therapy and return to the board.
Brandon Loves Fishing
Aside from skateboarding, Brandon has a strong affinity for fishing. Brandon and some friends spend their free time exploring nearby waterways, fishing for snook and tarpon from his 15-foot boat. Plans for skateboarding and fishing were put on hold for several months after his cancer diagnosis. However, he eventually returned to his usual activities. Likewise, someone later referred Brandon to Make-A-Wish, a nationwide group that grants wishes for children with a variety of devastating illnesses.
The group grants about 300 requests each week, and 87% of recipients say it was a turning point in their recovery journey. The Make-A-Wish Foundation reached out to the Reed family to help them make Brandon’s wish come true. At first, his mother politely declined the offer, asking the charity to help another child since Brandon already had everything he needed. In May, Brandon was contacted again by the Wish team, who asked if he wanted to go halibut fishing in Alaska.
Alternatively, they asked him if he would go tuna fishing outside of San Diego. However, a salesman at Fort Pierce Bait said his top three choices are clear: “White’s Tackle, White’s Tackle, White’s Tackle.” Brandon held a $4,000 Make-A-Wish event on June 16, 2023, with his sister, his mother and a dozen friends. Brandon, who was transported by Cisco Limo from West Palm Beach, spent hours picking fishing reels, nets, lures and bait buckets to express his passion for fishing.
