Pop star Britney Spears was married to Jason Alexander for just 55 hours in 2004 when they eloped in Las Vegas.
In his new memoir, “The Woman In Me,” the now 41-year-old reflects on how he only got married because he was “drunk” and “bored.”
Her childhood friend, however, sees things differently, and has taken to Instagram to slam the “lies” she sees in Britney’s storybook.
Jason Alexander Slams Britney Spears’ Memoir: ‘Cheap Words’
In an Instagram post, Jason shared a photo of a rose, his favorite flower.
“If roses are red and so is reality, why is Britney’s book full of untrue little white lies?” he wrote above the video.
“Words are cheap when they are written for money,” he added in the caption.
Jason Calls Britney ‘Sell Out’
In another Instagram post, set to the song “Remember This,” Jason shared a memorable photo of the two together.
“When I was with Britney in 2000 at Laura Lynne’s apartment… oh yeah we were bored then too,” he wrote along with the hashtags #losers, #liars and #contracts.
“Yeah, Britney and I just hate each other and we don’t remember anything and we’re not self-aware here,” she wrote along with some laughing face emojis and the hashtags #whateversells, #sellouts, #greed, and #losers.
Jason Alexander Calls Out Britney’s Ghostwriter Sam Lansky
While ghostwriter Sam Lansky has helped many Hollywood stars like Madonna and Adele write their own memoirs, Jason isn’t a fan of how he helped Britney write hers.
“Thank you so much, Sam Lansky, for your ‘really’ words – I mean, ‘Britney’s book’ … I love it when everything is a lie. Where did the book money go?” he asked along with the hashtag #liesformoney.
In the caption of this Instagram post, she wrote, “Written by… #goodtry,” as if implying that Britney didn’t write her own book.

He writes that the two have no feelings for each other. Instead, he said that they were “bored” and drunk, which is why they got married. “People ask if I love him. To be clear: he and I were not in love,” he wrote. “To be honest I was very drunk – and probably, in a more general sense at that time in my life, very bored.”
He said that he never took the marriage “seriously” but was surprised by the reaction of his family members when they found out. “They made a big deal out of innocent fun,” Britney wrote. “Everyone has a different perspective on it, but I don’t take it too seriously. I think a wedding in Vegas is something people probably do as a joke.”

“Then my family came and acted like I had started World War III. I cried the whole time I was in Las Vegas,” he continued. “I realized: something about me being under their control and not having a stronger relationship with other people had become very, very important to them.”
According to Page Six, Jason Alexander once claimed that Britney had the idea of getting married after they “did drugs” together. “He just came out and asked me. He was like, ‘Okay, let’s get married.’ And I was like, ‘Sure. You know, let’s do this,’” she recalled, saying that she was driven by love. “I went with my gut,” he recalls. “I fell in love with him. … I think he feels the same way.”
Britney Spears’ memoir “The Woman In Me” is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
