In her memoir, “The Woman In Me,” the Pop Princess admitted that she took method acting too far in “Crossroads” and feared what would happen if she took on the role of a killer in “Chicago.”
In her memoir, she recalls her role as Lucy Wagner, that she “didn’t know what it was” when filming was over. At one point, she even claimed that her boyfriend Justin Timberlake asked her, “Who are you?”
“It’s embarrassing to say, but it was like a cloud or something came over me and I just became this girl named Lucy,” Britney explained in her memoirs, as per the Daily Mail. “When the camera is on, I’m him, and then I can’t tell the difference between when the camera is on and when it’s not.”

“I know that sounds silly, but it’s the truth. I take it seriously. I took it seriously until Justin said, ‘Why are you walking like that? Who are you?’” he recalled. “All I can say is that it’s a good thing Lucy is a sweet girl who writes poetry about how she is ‘not a girl, not yet a woman’, and not a serial killer.’
He later said that he “was a different person for months while I was filming Crossroads,” adding, “Still to this day, I bet the girls I shot the movie with thought, ‘He’s a little weird…’ If they think so, they are right.”
Britney went on to say, “I wish I’d never come near the dangers of that job again,” adding, “Living like that, being half yourself and half a fictional character, is a mess. After a while, you don’t know what’s real. “

Although she “shocked” the film producers with her audition tape for “The Notebook,” she admitted that she was glad she didn’t get the role.
In her memoir, she revealed that she was also approached by producers to star in the 2002 film “Chicago” to star as murderous housewife Roxie Hart. The role eventually went to Renee Zellweger, who earned a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her role.
“Chicago must have been fun,” Britney recalled in her memoir. “It’s all dance – my favorite kind: prissy, girly silliness, Pussycat Doll-like, serve-off your-corset moves. I wish I accepted the offer. I’ll be the villain who kills a man, and sing and dance while doing it too.”
“I could probably find a way, get some training, to avoid being a Chicago character like I had with Lucy in Crossroads. I wish I tried something different,” he admitted.

Britney Spears isn’t the only one looking back on her past. “Crossroads” director Tamra Davis told Entertainment Weekly on Friday that she and writer Shonda Rhimes had to fight to keep the controversial sex scene in the 2002 film at Britney’s request. “We definitely have to fight for some things,” Davis said, explaining how Britney “wanted [challenge] image that she is a virgin forever.”
Davis said that the sex scenes were done “tastefully”, noting that “a child wouldn’t know what’s going on.” The scene was eventually saved on film, prompting Davis to say, “That was a fight I’m glad we won.” He also stated that Britney was going to spend the night with the “Cry Me A River” singer while they were filming, but knew better than to ask questions.
“I would have to knock on her hotel room door in the morning sometimes and say, ‘OK, Britney, time to go,’ and Justin would be there,” Davis told the outlet. “It was at the height of, ‘Is Britney a virgin?’ I won’t even ask! Even waking it up in a hotel room, I was like, whatever happens in your personal life, it’s personal.
Britney Spears’ memoir “The Woman In Me” was officially released on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
