Pop star Britney Spears shared a cryptic quote on Instagram on Monday night that may be related to her divorce from actor Sam Asghari.
The “Special Ops: Lioness” actress filed for divorce on Aug. 16, citing “irreconcilable differences,” according to court documents obtained by The Blast. The actor listed July 28, 2023, as the breakup date, hinting that the split was well underway before it hit the headlines earlier this month.

On Monday, August 28, the “Toxic” singer shared a quote on Instagram that emphasized the importance of setting boundaries in real life as well as online. Bold text written on the door reads, “You can mute people in real life too. It’s called a boundary.”
Comments on the post have been disabled, as all of his recent posts have been disabled, but the quote got nearly 50,000 likes in just six hours. Britney tagged @wealthink247 for the photo but didn’t write anything else in the caption.

It seems that most of the couple’s fans could have predicted that the split was going to happen for a while. In December 2022, the “(You Drive Me) Crazy” singer admitted that the 29-year-old actress “hated” her meditation practice and thought she was “on a rampage” in a since-deleted Instagram post.
“I meditate that b—- now ??♀️… my husband hates it … he thinks I’m crazy,” she wrote at the time, adding, “Usually I forget to eat … I wait too long and I’m too sensitive so if anything anything wrong in that house is like the end of the world.”
“So I got in my car yesterday and I cried … I cried so d— hard but oh man, my car is my spaceship ? … that’s where I have my best interests, thoughts, creative impulses, ideas, that’s spiritual … true -truly spiritual and we’re ‘all in this together on the road,’ he wrote.

Although Sam posted a photo of the two of them meditating together on Christmas day, by March 2023, they were both photographed walking around without their wedding rings. While Sam posted something to his Instagram Story for their one-year anniversary on June 9, 2023, Britney didn’t share anything because she deactivated Instagram at the same time.
While it wasn’t a surprise that their relationship ended, it did come as a surprise when TMZ reported that the couple had split due to allegations of infidelity, then shared that Sam found footage of Britney in a “compromising position” with a male staff member at home. However, a source told ET that Britney “insisted she didn’t cheat,” adding, “The two didn’t get along for a while and it ended after a big blowup.”
“Britney and Sam have had ups and downs throughout their relationship. They have a lot of love for each other, but they also argue a lot about basic issues,” they continued. “Sometimes they feel as if each other’s needs are not fully met. Recently, things have taken a turn for the worse and their arguments have become more serious and real.”

Another insider claims that the two “have had problems on and off as a couple since before they got married.”
“Their issues tend to get worse when they are away from each other and spend time apart. Britney has a tendency to feel like she’s not being prioritized by Sam at times,” the insider claims. “Their arguments have caused them to be unhappy at times in their relationship. They are also on different pages when it comes to their future as a couple, which has been a point of contention.”
A week later, another source told ET that the dynamics of their relationship changed once Britney was free from her 13-year conservatorship, which began in February 2008 and was struck down by a judge in November 2021.

“Britney can argue sometimes, but also feels like Sam doesn’t let her do much without him,” a source said. “Before Britney’s conservatorship ended, Sam was very supportive. Once it was over, Britney felt very free, but that ended up changing based on certain dynamics in her relationship with Sam.”
“Britney feels like things changed in her relationship with Sam once her conservatorship ended. Before it ended, Britney was more in a set routine, but when she was free, a lot changed,” said another insider. “Britney wants to embrace her freedom and feel Sam can’t necessarily handle it,” they continued, adding, “Britney won’t let anyone else control her, and she feels like it’s starting to happen again.”
Fans can’t wait to hear more insight from the “Gimme More” singer about her conservatorship when her highly anticipated memoir, “The Woman In Me” hits shelves on October 24, 2023.
