A gasoline-snorting burglary suspect was caught as he sat in the garage of a home he allegedly broke into last week in Washington.
Seattle police said they received a call Friday morning when a 17-year-old girl alleged a man with a stick tried to enter her parents’ home around 11:30 a.m.
“Out of concern for the juvenile’s safety, officers broke down the front door to gain entry and began searching for the 17-year-old female victim and the suspect,” a statement from the Seattle Police Department read.
During the search, officers heard a bang inside the home and found the 40-year-old man sitting in the front seat of a car with a can of red gasoline and a hammer in his lap.
As police approached the car, the suspect put a nozzle to his mouth and began drinking gasoline before putting the container back and wiping his mouth, according to police body camera footage.
The suspect remained locked in the truck, trying to negotiate with them and pleading he “didn’t want any trouble.”

The police broke the driver’s side window and the suspect took it as an excuse to take another gulp of petrol.
“What…,” said an officer on the recording.
Several officers pulled the suspect out of the car and held him on the ground.

The man was treated by paramedics and later booked into the King County Jail for burglary.
According to data from the Seattle police, the city of Washington has experienced more than 22,000 property crimes this year with burglary being the second most on the list with about 4,750 offenses, but with only 602 arrests made in 2023.
The latest data from the US Census Bureau found that nearly a quarter of a million residents wanted to leave the Emerald City because of rising crime, making 7.2% of people wanting to escape the crime, the highest of any city in the country.

Crime in the city has become so rampant that a veteran cop has resigned from the Seattle police force, but not before he decries the city’s failed leadership.
“The toxic mix of the Seattle City Council’s stupidity, the mayor’s bigotry, the laxity of the prosecutor’s office, and your failed leadership has accelerated this city’s downward spiral. The problem was already there before you came on the scene, but since your arrival, it has been a free fall into anarchy & chaos,” former Seattle Police Lt. Jessica Taylor said in her 15-page resignation letter on Aug. 1.
