He became the second kicker to kick at least 20 goals in a season without conceding. Twelve field goals were from 40 yards or more, two from 50 yards or more, and 31 of 55 kickoffs resulted in touchdowns. After the season, Santos was selected as a consensus All-American[9] and awarded the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s best placekicker.
