A California couple was robbed of “priceless” ancestral jewelry outside their Orange County home after a team of thieves followed them 16 miles home from a jewelry store, according to the victim’s family and reports.
Dr Vijay Wali and his wife Dr Jyotika Wali were attacked last Friday by a pair of men as they entered their driveway in a terrifying scene captured on home surveillance footage, the couple’s daughter said in a Facebook post.
Ring footage of part of the incident shows Vijay being thrown to the ground in his driveway after he struggled with one of the alleged thieves.
Vijay said he was taking things out of the trunk when his wife was about to step into the house when a man pounced on her, NBC News reported.
He told the store he yelled at his wife to lock the door and she was hit in the head. When Jyotika goes to help her partner, she is later attacked and robbed.
“I was immediately attacked by another man, and my wallet was taken, and I saw that my husband had been attacked, and I screamed for help,” she told the station.

The couple’s daughter, Dr. Priyanka Wali, said in a Facebook post that the man who attacked her father said in Spanish to her accomplice, “Take it from her” when talking about her mother’s purse.
The robber followed the couple for quite some time as the pair made several stops, including at Jyotika’s office, according to NBC News.

Thieves stalk their victims for about 16 miles, Priyanka said.
“There were at least two cars present and several people involved in this Southern California organized crime,” he wrote.
The couple was robbed of several family heirlooms known as dejhoor, long earrings worn by Kashmiri Hindu brides before their weddings, ABC 7 Los Angeles reported.
“They took my dejhoor, my mother and my grandmother,” Priyanka told the station. “I mean, that’s ancestral jewelry that has been in our family for a long time and is priceless. That’s really the most important thing we want to get back.”

Fullerton police confirmed to KTLA that they are investigating the incident, but did not provide further details.
It was unclear what the dollar value of the stolen items was. No arrests have been reported.
“I’m still shaking. It’s shocking and it shouldn’t happen to anyone,” Vijay told ABC 7 LA.
