A Southern California woman has disappeared from a yoga retreat in a popular tourist spot in Guatemala – and her family says it’s a “living hell” trying to get any information about her disappearance.
Nancy Ng, 29, of Monterey Park, disappeared on Oct. 19. while living near Lake Atitlán, a large body of water located inside a volcanic crater.
After departing for what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation on October 14, the retreat’s organizers contacted his family a few days later to say he had disappeared.
“The last two weeks have been a living hell because when we first got the news that she was missing, we just had so many questions,” Nancy’s sister Nicky Ng told KTLA.
“What happen? Where is he now? Is there any chance he is still alive? We don’t know anything.”
It’s unclear exactly when Ng, a former Cal State law student who now helps students with disabilities in the Alhambra Unified School District, disappeared, his family said. He was reported missing on Oct. 19.

Her younger sister said it was her second year attending the yoga retreat, and spoke fondly of the experience and the beautiful area where she lived.
“Last year, he got up every morning just to spend time there by himself without the group and this year will be even more interesting because they have planned activities at the lake.”
Since his disappearance, his family has been in contact with the State Department, the FBI and local search and rescue teams in Guatemala.

As the Guatemalan government leads the investigation with the help of the FBI, local rescue teams there have searched about 95% of the lake by air and land with divers and drones, the family told the outlet.
“We don’t know where he went, where he disappeared because there’s no confirmation of that,” said Chris Sharpe, co-owner of Black Wolf Helicopters, which is helping with the search. “We have a rough idea, but it varies from one side of the lake to the other.”
According to Sharpe, people who may have been with Nancy the day she disappeared have not provided information, making it more difficult to build leads in the case.

Despite the challenges, the Ng family remained focused on making sure he returned home safely.
“My role here is just to make sure nothing is left out and make sure we try everything we can,” said his brother Jonathan Ng.
Nancy, the eldest of four siblings, had a penchant for adventure and loved yoga, hiking and traveling, her family said in a GoFundMe set up to help with the search.

“He had a kind heart, a big smile, and could talk to anyone about anything (and often, everything). She was a loving daughter, a loving sister, and a supportive friend,” the fundraiser said.
“We just want him to know that we love him so much and we just want to bring him home,” added Nicky.
The family financed the search for Ng.
“Time is of the essence, and we are racing against time to bring Nancy home,” her family said in a statement to KTLA. “It was a constant nightmare, not knowing what happened to Nancy or if we were ever going to get her back. All my family wants is to bring our sister/daughter home. Please help us do that.”
