Alex Cooper is officially off the market!
The star podcaster has confirmed her engagement to film producer and businessman Matt Kaplan following a very intimate yet very romantic proposal. Cooper and Kaplan — previously dubbed “Mr. Sexy Zoom Men” on his podcast — first met on a Zoom call in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic.

Cooper spares no detail in recounting the events that led up to the moment he met his fiancée on bended knee. Talk with W Magazine for an interview published Monday, the 28-year-old shared that Kaplan raised the big question on March 3 at their Los Angeles home after he was lured off the property for a “photo shoot.”

Although she remembers feeling like the shoot was directionless and “could tell everyone was stalling,” she continued. She later found out that it “was a fake photoshoot that my publicist and Matt put together to get me out of the house, wearing sweatpants and in hair, makeup and nails so I would feel good about the photo.”
When he returned home that evening, the scene had turned into the most romantic scene with “candles lit, music playing, and a hunt that led to Matt proposing.”
The crime began with instructions to play a video showing the “Call Her Daddy” host’s lover rocking the “same outfit” she did during their first meeting. In the clip, the Columbia University alum talks about their relationship and his feelings for his lover before prompting her to “open the card sit there and go on a scavenger hunt around the house.”
The Boston University alum soon realized each room had a set theme, with photos and memorabilia to match. When he arrived at the last room, he was greeted with “a glass of champagne and a card” and specific instructions: “Meet me by the Buddha.”
“The lady who lived here before us put this big 500-pound Buddha in the yard, and we were sure we couldn’t get it out—that was bad luck,” Cooper recounted. Fortunately, it wasn’t bad luck that he encountered there as his man was already placed with “our two dogs in a little bow tie.” The radio host details:
“He got down on one knee and said, “You are my soulmate, the love of my life. You make me a better man. Please do me the honor of marrying me.” I like it, blacked out. I think I said yes at first. It was very real.”

While the news of Kaplan and Cooper’s engagement was enough to melt many hearts, it should be remembered that the two never wanted to get married. The blonde beauty and her producer beau have “talked about having kids together” without putting marriage on the table.
For the Pennington High School alumna, conforming to society’s expectations “to marry a man and live happily ever after” was not something she wanted. However, it was easy for him to change his mind as their relationship developed until he could no longer deny that he “would love to marry her.” He finally broke the news of his decision to her, saying:
“We went on a date night at Giorgio Baldi’s in November, and I told him he could propose whenever he wanted. She was beaming, because she had accepted that maybe we wouldn’t get married.
Cooper’s most important game changer was the fact that he and the CEO of Ace Entertainment “had a great initial dynamic.” This also helps them share a common interest in communicating about everything, including “the hard stuff.”
“Having that foundation of honesty and trust allowed us to go through things in life that I couldn’t imagine having anyone else by my side. Plus, we have this crazy chemistry. He is also very supportive of my career,” said the Spotify host.
Until their engagement, Cooper had kept the details of his romance with Kaplan under wraps, with the pair never publicly photographed together.
