Camila Mendes recently talked about her skincare routine and why it’s so important to her, and even opened up about her hyperpigmentation problem.
“Every time I have a blemish, I’ll destroy it and pick at it until it bleeds,” the “Riverdale” actress told Allure in a recent interview. “And then it becomes a wound that eventually scars, so hyperpigmentation is one of my biggest ongoing concerns,” she admits.
“Before ‘Riverdale,’ I wasn’t someone who wore a lot of makeup or had an extensive skin care routine,” the 28-year-old told the magazine. “But when I started spending hours wearing heavy makeup on set, I saw that my skin was suffering and knew I needed to do more for myself.”
Mendes says her current skincare routine consists of cleanser, toner, moisturizer and sunscreen, but she also admits that her method may not be for everyone.
“There is no ‘one size fits all’ in skincare,” says the 28-year-old. “Pay attention to how your skin reacts to each product you try, and put together a routine specific to your needs.”

Hyperpigmentation isn’t the only struggle Mendes faces. In the past, she’s opened up about her mental health and body image issues, even seeking help from a nutritionist to help her overcome her fear of food, particularly carbs.
The 28-year-old took to the Going Mental podcast, admitting her struggle with body image issues since childhood. After the first season of “Riverdale” debuted, her body image issues took over, leading to an eating disorder.
“I would watch every episode and say, ‘Oh my God, my stomach is there …'” he told host Eileen Kelly about watching the first back season of “Riverdale.” “I was very insecure, and it triggered my eating disorder.
“When you’re in your early 20s, like, your body fluctuates…my body hasn’t settled into itself yet,” she continued. “I looked at myself, isolating myself. My stomach, you know, my arms, my chin, anything – I would obsess.”
Mendes said his struggles took over so much that it interfered with his work. “It kind of hinders my acting because when I’m acting on camera … it’s with your process,” he added.
The 28-year-old finally saw a nutritionist to help him overcome his fear of food. “I was afraid of eating carbs,” she continued, “and what would happen is I would avoid them for a long period of time, and then I would eat a lot and then purge them. So it was this, like, terrible cycle. He helped me overcome it by reintroducing bread into my life to be like, ‘Look, it’s not going to kill you.'”
Camila Mendes will say goodbye to Veronica Lodge as “Riverdale” ends after the seventh season.
