Bad or Poor Internet Connection: The most basic and common reason for causing technical problems is a slow connection. It is quite possible that due to network connectivity issues, your post may not get reposted to Instagram story.
Account type: If you’re trying to share a post to your story, but the “Add Post to Story” option isn’t available, it’s because the account is private. When an account is private, the posts it contains cannot be shared except with the people who follow it, unlike public accounts.
Instagram glitches and errors: Instagram might be down or have some server issues. If the device is also glitchy, it can cause difficulties for apps. Therefore, not being able to share posts to the story on Instagram.
Instagram app is out of date – If you are not using the latest available version of the app, the older version could get corrupted over time and become corrupted. Due to this, Instagram will not work properly.

Fixes for when you can’t share posts to story?

Now go to Settings < Privacy.

Then go to Story and disable the “Allow sharing to story” option.

After this, close Instagram and restart it. Lastly, enable the option by following the steps below.

Under the Account Privacy option, disable the Private Account option and tap Switch to Public.

Now your account has been converted to a public account and hopefully you will be able to repost the posts to your stories now.

Go to the post you want to share and tap on the airplane icon below it.

Then click Add Post to Story.

Finally, click on Your story and it will be published successfully.

Choose the option you prefer for the audience of your story.

How to share a story without the “Add Post to Story” button?

If you don’t want to bother navigating to the Share button and then tapping the “Add Post to Story” option to share the post to your story, you can share it in a few different ways. Let’s see how.

Open Instagram, then go to the post you want to share and tap on the three vertical dots on the right side of the post.

Now click on the Link option from the bottom of the screen in the middle.

Note: The post will now be available on your device and available to post to your story. However, you should keep in mind that content from a private account cannot be downloaded.
