Mulligan has always chosen projects that are meaningful to her and while she continues to do so, being a mother to older children has forced her to change the way she does it. “It’s different now. When they are small, it is quite portable. Now that mine is getting older, it will become clearer what is and isn’t possible for us.”
But he is calmer now. “I think in terms of work, I feel more relaxed. It’s an old cliché — acting you do for free and everything else is what you pay for.” She noted that she and Mumford were “lucky” to be doing the jobs they wanted to do and realized how it has allowed her to be a different mother.
After her first child, Mulligan returned to work Suffragettes and shared that her slow pace added to her struggles with postpartum depression. “One of the parts of the script that struck me the most at first was Megan’s experience with postpartum depression.
