Carrie Fisher was on a flight from London to Los Angeles on December 23, 2016, when she had a medical emergency about fifteen minutes before the plane landed. A passenger performed CPR on him until paramedics arrived, but he was reportedly unresponsive before landing.
He was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and immediately placed on a ventilator. Sadly, after four days in intensive care, Carrie died at the age of 60 on December 27, 2016. Her daughter, Billie Lourd, confirmed her death in a statement at the time.
On December 28, 2016, just one day after Carrie’s death, her mother, Debbie Reynolds, suffered a stroke while the family was preparing for Carrie’s funeral. He was rushed to hospital and died later that evening.
A few weeks later, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health released his death certificate, which listed “cardiac arrest/delayed” as the cause of death. A few months later, the coroner’s office reported that the exact cause of death could not be determined, but listed “sleep apnea and the buildup of fatty tissue on the artery walls as contributing factors” to his death.
