There’s no need to bring Lizzy McAlpine home because the success of her hit song “Ceilings” is far from over!
There’s a pretty good chance TikTok users will be familiar with “Ceilings,” 23-year-old McAlpine’s lead single from her sophomore LP “five seconds flat.” The song has become a success story on the app, with the help of an accelerated version. “Ceiling” was originally released last year.
McAlpine has been releasing music for half a decade, and now he can cross major music achievements off his bucket list! “Ceiling” has stepped from TikTok to the top of the Billboard charts; “Ceiling” is now number one on the Billboard Alternative Streaming Songs!
McAlpine Dishes At The ‘Ceiling’ Of Viral TikTok Success
Asked if McAlpine “ever tried to figure out why or understand” the song’s success, he replied, “I mean, I think it makes sense. I think that, I just, I watched it basically blow up on TikTok and people related to like, the idea of being a little bit delusional,” she continued. “And imagining, you know, scenarios with someone that aren’t actually real, or like, you know… I think it’s a pretty universal feeling like, you’ve just started dating someone and you’re imagining your whole life together. . Or you see a stranger on the street, and you’re like, ‘Oh, he could be the one,’ you know?”
“I think it happens to all of us in some form, so I think it makes a lot of sense to me why people relate to it. Because it’s such a universal feeling.”
When Sang’s co-host, Dan Zolot, brought up the plot point in the song where McAlpine reveals the entire story of “Ceilings” was a figment of his imagination, he said, “People like plot twists, I guess.”
What Does McAlpine Think About Viral Accelerated Versions’ ‘Ceiling’?
When asked how it felt to hear his song “in a chipmunk voice,” McAlpine replied, “It’s weird. I don’t like the sped-up version. I like that it helps my song succeed, that’s good for me…”
He went on to say, “It’s weird, because people are like, ‘release an accelerated version,’ and I’m like, ‘why?’ Who wants to hear that? What’s it like? It just doesn’t make sense to me. I’m like, just listen to the real song!”
McAlpine concluded the subject of “Ceiling” and its viral success on TikTok by declaring that he “has a love/hate relationship” with the app.
McAlpine also announced on Instagram earlier this week that he will be a “special guest” opening for Lewis Capaldi in Manchester, England, on August 25th!
