Celine Dion’s younger sister, Claudette, recently shared an update on the singer’s health amid her battle with stiff man syndrome.
Claudette revealed that Dion is working on her recovery, just as the singer promised in an emotional Instagram video in English and French when she informed fans of her condition. However, his efforts have not contributed much to his recovery, and he is now unable to “control” his muscles.
“What hurts my heart is that he is always disciplined,” said the famous singer’s sister in an interview with 7 Travel, follow Daily Mail. “He always works hard. Our mom always told him, ‘You’re going to do well, you’re going to do it right.’”
He added, “It’s true that in both our dreams and his, the goal is to return to the stage. In what capacity? I don’t know.”

According to Claudette, Dion’s condition is rare, affecting about one in a million people. Stiff person syndrome has no known exact cause, but researchers suspect it is an autoimmune disorder, in which the immune system attacks healthy cells for no apparent reason.
As such, limited research into the disease has made it difficult to find solutions that might help Dion overcome his symptoms, such as limb stiffness, painful muscle spasms, difficulty walking and sensory issues.
Although Dion has since kept a low profile following her diagnosis, she continues to receive support from her fans through her family’s charity, Fondation Maman Dion.
Claudette said, ‘Some people have lost hope because it’s all unknown diseases. If only you knew the number of phone calls the Foundation got about Celine! People tell us they love him, and they pray for him. He got so many messages, gifts and blessed crosses.”
When Did Celine Dion Reveal Her Stiff Person Syndrome Diagnosis?
The new update on Dion’s health comes more than a year after the singer informed fans of her condition.
Back in December 2022, he opened up to fans in a tearful video, which he used as an opportunity to announce the cancellation of the European leg of his tour scheduled for February 2023.
Dion said that he had “dealt with his health problems for a long time” before being diagnosed with stiff man syndrome. He added that the spasms caused by his illness affect “every aspect of his daily life,” sometimes causing difficulty walking and preventing him from using his vocal cords properly.
“I have to admit it was a struggle. All I know is singing, that’s what I’ve been doing all my life…” the singer continued in the video. “I have hope that I am on the road to recovery. This is my focus and I am doing everything I can to recover.
