Charity Lawson was sent home shortly before the Fantasy Suites on Zach Shallcross’ season of “The Bachelor,” which the 27-year-old admits was shocking.

“Yes, no, I don’t [see it coming],” Lawson said on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” about when Shallcross sent her home. “I didn’t. I would say I was a little blind because Zach and I have always had, what I feel, is a very honest and open relationship, regardless of whether it’s a challenging conversation to have.”

“But I will admit that at that point in the process, it was almost hard not to roll your eyes because he made a tough decision,” he continued to explain. “So I didn’t see it coming, but I mean, he had to make an uncomfortable decision that was best for him.”

The talk show host asked the current “Bachelor” leader if she has closure from her breakup with Zach Shallcross, which Lawson said the two had a chance to talk about everything that happened off camera.

“We’ve had a chance to talk about it,” Lawson told Hudson. “I asked him how the process was for him [to] make that decision — how does he navigate and how does he do it?” Lawson was referring to how Shallcross chose his final three women – Ariel Frenkel, Gabi Elnicki and Kaity Biggar, sending Lawson home.

“I asked him what was the turning point, you know, where did he go wrong?,” he continued to explain. “And he basically repeated to me that it was nothing wrong; it was something he honestly fought for [with] and back and forth all day before the Rose Ceremony and he just had to make up his mind.”

The “Bachelor” leader now admits, “For me, I was like, ‘I don’t know if that makes me feel better’,” though he said Shallcross acknowledged his feelings.

The 27-year-old also opened up about becoming the fourth woman of color to take on the lead role of “The Bachelor” and the second monoracial African American woman to be on “The Bachelor.”

“It’s bigger than me,” Lawson told Jennifer Hudson on the talk show, “and I’m honored to hold that representation for other people in the house who look like me — little girls and women of color who can look up to to me and admit. that this is also possible for them.”

Rachel Lindsay was the first woman of color to be the lead of “The Bachelor” in Season 13, followed by Tayshia Adams, who split Season 16 with Clare Crawley. The latest before Lawson is Michelle Young, who was the Season 18 frontrunner.

Lawson explained how he still can’t believe he’s “The Bachelor”. “I’m still like that [processing it],” Lawson said on the show. “This time last year… I had graduated and then worked [as a child and family therapist] and got the chance to be on Zach’s season and be on The Bachelor, and now I’m on my journey.”
