Who is Robert Card, the person of interest in Maine mass shooting?

A person of interest in a mass shooting in Maine that left at least 22 people dead is a trained firearms instructor who spent two weeks in a mental health facility over the summer, according to law enforcement sources.

Robert Card, 40, is the subject of a massive manhunt in connection with a horrific massacre in the city of Lewiston on Wednesday night, the local police department announced.

“Card should be considered armed and dangerous,” the department said in a post Wednesday night. “Please contact law enforcement if you know of his whereabouts.”

Police identified the possible suspect as Robert Card, 40, and believe he may be driving a white Subaru Outback, which was later located in Lisbon, about 8 miles from the scene of the shooting, according to CentralMaine.com.

Residents in Lisbon were also ordered to shelter in place, with authorities warning that Card may be armed and dangerous.

Maine State Police are advising local residents and businesses to lock their doors and shelter in place.

On Wednesday night, emergency personnel were called to separate shootings at the Sparetime Recreation bowling alley and at Schemengees Restaurant Bar and Grille, according to the Sun Journal.

The number of deaths nearly equals the number of annual homicides in the state of Maine — with 29 homicides reported in 2022.

Lewiston is a city of about 38,000 nearly 30 miles north of Portland.

President Biden was informed of the mass shooting.

Card also apparently lost his job recently, CNN reported Wednesday night.

He studied engineering at the University of Maine from 2001 to 2004, though it’s unclear whether he graduated, a school spokesperson told NBC News.
