Charles first joined the staff of First Baptist Church of Atlanta in 1969. In 1971, he was appointed senior pastor. Later, he developed ‘The Chapel Hour,’ a half-hour religious television show. In 1978, the Christian Broadcasting Network began airing the program. In 1982, he started In Touch Ministries, and his radio broadcasts became syndicated.
Ministry broadcasts were accessible in almost every major American media market throughout the 1980s. The program is broadcast in over 50 languages worldwide.
