Charlotte Sena’s accused kidnapper targeted her because of late grandfather’s multi-million fortune: ex-girlfriend

The man accused of kidnapping 9-year-old Charlotte Sena in an upstate New York park and holding her for ransom is reportedly after her late grandfather’s fortune, according to his ex-girlfriend.

Craig Ross Jr., 46, was charged earlier this week with kidnapping the young girl, who was found in a closet in her trailer after she disappeared while riding her bike while camping with her family.

Charlotte’s grandfather, Patrick Sena, successfully sued the small town of Greenfield, New York in 1998 over a sledding accident and was awarded $2.2 million, the Daily Mail reported.

He died in 2015.

Ross’ ex-partner Amanda Preece, 33, told the outlet she believed that Ross asked for $50,000 from Senas because she knew about the settlement money — as it was common knowledge among many residents who live in the Saratoga area.

“I think that’s why he’s holding his ransom, he’s hoping to get some money because he’s struggling financially,” he said.

“That kind of money will set him up for about four or five years.”

“He never wanted to work. He always wants to find people to make fun of whether it’s being a girlfriend or making his mom feel bad because his MS is so bad,” she added, referring to multiple sclerosis.

Ross reportedly fell behind on tax payments on a property less than two miles from Charlotte’s home, forcing him to move back to his mother’s property where he lives in a trailer.

Preece says that Ross is “evil” and believes he has been following Charlotte and her family, planning a raid for some time.

“He has followed his family, he knows where they live,” he said.

“He put the tarp over the window months before, so I think he’s been planning it for a while,” added Preece.

“He has patience for such bad things.”

“To go to the campsites where they are, to find out where they live, and go to the park when they are there. He must have planned this,” he told the newspaper.

“He’s the type of person that he plans and it’s probably months away from doing something.”

Preece was granted a restraining order against Ross in 2017 after he “grabbed her with both hands” and threw her across the room, according to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail.

She claims he “terrorized” her while they were together.

Ross was also the subject of a recent closed investigation into the sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl, police sources told the Times Union.

The investigation ended with no charges filed.

Since his arrest Monday, police have been looking for any connection between Ross and other major unsolved cases around — including the decades-long kidnapping and murders of 19-year-old Jennifer Hammond and Christina White, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

Ross was busted after his DNA was matched to fingerprints on the ransom note he left in the Sena family’s mailbox.

He was charged with first-degree kidnapping with intent to collect ransom during a hearing early Tuesday morning. More charges are expected, authorities said.

Ross is currently being held in the Saratoga County Jail without bail.

The next court date is scheduled for October 17.
