Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has set a 4 p.m. meeting with 22 holdouts in his party who are opposing him on a runoff for House speaker on Wednesday, sources told The Post.
It is unclear whether there will be a third vote. Some representatives are calling for a floor vote tonight, while others are calling for a new candidate to emerge in the race for speaker, following the unprecedented Oct. 3 ouster of Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
The Chamber has not been able to conduct any business since then.
GOP representatives began a closed-door conference at 11 a.m. Thursday to figure out what to do after Jordan failed twice in two days this week to garner enough support (217 House votes) to secure the speakership.
Jordan supported a resolution that would have given new powers to current speaker pro tempore Patrick McHenry of North Carolina — but “not dropped out” as a candidate for speaker, a source familiar with his plan told the Post on Thursday.
GOP representatives have been stalling for weeks now, despite the ongoing war in Ukraine, the outbreak of war in Israel and the looming Nov. 17 deadline to avoid a partial government shutdown.
