Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy just welcomed their first child, Rome, in January 2023.
Now that Rom is getting older, the two allow him to try new foods. The Johnsons decided to make homemade applesauce for their baby boy to try, however, Rom’s reaction was not what the “Dancing With the Stars” alum was hoping for.

Jenna Johnson shared a video of herself making homemade applesauce, and what appeared to be homemade sweet potatoes, for Rom to try for the first time. The “Dancing With the Stars” alum said she stayed up all night preparing two dishes, but when Rome tried the applesauce, her reaction wasn’t what Johnson expected.
“Soooo, I don’t think I’ll stay up all night making him applesauce again ????,” she captioned the video before adding, “Definitely not the reaction I was expecting lol. Dear my dear.. we will try different flavors next time. Hopefully no more choking!!”
The fans were very supportive of Johnson, trying to encourage him not to give up. “Lol! Sometimes it’s the texture and they’re not used to it not the taste! Don’t throw in the towel on applesauce again! He’s the cutest!!!,” one fan commented on the video.
Another wrote, “Haha my daughter doesn’t like homemade applesauce, but loves sweet potatoes and pumpkin!”
While one of his fans spoke up, “That’s normal! Choking will happen with real food, even puree. My daughter gets stuffed all the time with carrots and we thought she hated it and now it’s her favorite.”
One of Johnson’s fans suggested, “Mix it in breast milk if you’re still breastfeeding, make popsicles for teething later!!! That way you don’t waste!”
While another commented, “Totally normal! They have to adjust to the new food, and it takes some time! Introduce one thing at a time and hopefully he will grow to love all things. He is precious.”

The “Dancing With the Stars” alum took to Instagram a few weeks after giving birth to her baby boy, Rome, to share details about the labor process.
“So many emotions during Labor and Delivery…excitement, fear, pure exhaustion, and so much love,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “I’ve always appreciated my body and what it can help me do and create in my craft… but nothing can prepare you for how magical that ship is and what childbirth goes through. About 30 hours and we finally got to meet our sweet bubba. I am forever grateful that I have the best support system to help me through ??.”
Fans supported Johnson after she got intimate with her fans, including “Dancing With the Stars” co-star Emma Slater, who commented, “Oh baby this is so beautiful. Proud of you mama ?❤️.” Another fan said, “Congratulations Mama – Bravo ?.”
