Cheryl Burke Is Ready To Re-Enter ‘The Dating World’

Cheryl Burke is ready to dip her toe back into the dating pool again months after her divorce from Matthew Lawrence.

Burke and Lawrence’s relationship went through many challenges before they called it quits in January 2022, beginning the process of their divorce — which also went through ups and downs. Now, Burke is ready to forget about it and focus on enjoying his single life.

From admitting how an abusive past relationship has affected her world view of love to revealing her unwillingness to date again, Burke has opened up with fans. So it was no surprise when he updated his followers and fans about his intention to date again.

The “Dancing with the Stars” alum uploaded a silhouette photo showing her standing on a rock head with her hands in the air on Instagram. The body of water, the blue sky, and the almost blinding sunlight in front of Burke beautify the photo. The 38-year-old touched on the nitty-gritty in his caption, writing:

“It’s been quite a journey last year with so many changes and transitions. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking that I need to “figure it out” before I get back into the dating world. I realized that I didn’t know if there was such a thing as “figuring it out” – I now know that life will be filled with curve balls, revelations and new beginnings along the way.”

“Thank you for the encouragement. It’s great to see people helping themselves through life’s challenges and making themselves better. I love reading your posts. Thanks again for sharing Cheryl,” one fan appreciated.

A second fan claims that any man would be “lucky” to have the dancer as his leading lady. Meanwhile, this fan just wants him to “let it come to you, don’t go looking for it and it won’t work. It will come to you, trust me.

A previous report from The Blast detailed how she took a break from dating as part of her sobriety journey. During a conversation with Adrienne Banfield Norris and Jada Pinkett Smith, the model began:

“I use alcohol to numb myself. I’m an addict. I’m a functioning addict. When I’m not drinking, people say, ‘What’s wrong with you?'”

Burke stated that although she had been sober for four years, things became challenging following her public divorce. However, instead of giving in to drinking, the “I Can Do That” star realized that she had reached a point where she needed to prioritize herself and her sobriety.

To that end, she chooses to take things “one day at a time, one minute at a time” while also “choosing not to date” anyone but herself. Even so, she understands that it’s “easier said than done” and focuses on adapting to the difference between being alone and feeling lonely.

Two-Time ‘DWTS’ Winner Sees Her Abuser As A Picture Of Love

During Burke’s conversation with Pinkett-Smith and Banfield-Norris, all three talked about trauma bonding. The Blast shared that trauma bonding occurs when an abused individual forms an unhealthy bond with their abuser.

This emotional attachment is born out of repeated cycles of abuse and devaluation. Although this situation could be between a kidnapper and a hostage or a child and an abusive caregiver, the discussion of all three focused on the bond of trauma in a romantic relationship.

As it turns out, Burke has experienced the same thing in multiple relationships, even in a relationship she was in when she was in high school. Recalling the vicious abuse case, the TV host said:

“In high school – I’ll never forget – the guy I was with for about four years whipped me with a belt. And I had bruises all over my leg. I remember his parents watching — not doing anything.”

She went on to state that she saw her abuser as “the definition of love.”
