Chief Keef was born on August 15, 1995, in Chicago, Illinois, to Alfonzo Cozart and Lolita Carter. He was raised by his grandmother in the Washington Park neighborhood of Chicago. His mother died when he was 16, so no information about his father is available; he got his name from his late uncle.
He started rapping at a young age, using his mother’s karaoke machine to record music. He attended Dulles Elementary School, Banner Middle School, and Dyett High School before dropping out at age 15 and receiving his diploma.
