Chris Harrison Tried To Avoid Negativity Amid ‘Bachelor’ Exit

Chris Harrison has had some time to think about his exit from the ‘Bachelor’ franchise, and now he’s finally ready to talk about it.

Harrison’s career will experience a cluster of thorns in early 2021; after nearly two decades in the spotlight as the face and host of the ‘Bachelor’ franchise, Harrison stepped down from his role following his controversial views on the situation involving Matt James’ final choice for his season, Rachael Kirkconnell.

Kirkconnell came under fire after old college photos surfaced, showing him attending a southern-themed antebellum fraternity party.

Harrison would later comment on the backlash Kirkconnell would receive in an Extra interview, conducted by Rachel Lindsay.

YouTube video

“This is a time where we need to have a little grace, a little understanding, and compassion because I’ve seen some things online… again, this judge, jury, executioner thing where people are just tearing this girl’s life apart and diving in like, mother his father, his parents’ voting record… it’s very disturbing to watch this,” Harrison would tell Lindsay in the interview. “I haven’t heard Rachael talk about this yet! And until I hear this woman has a chance to speak, who am I to say all this?”

After Lindsay will show the photo and the response Kirkconnell will receive from Bachelor Nation, she will show why the photo is such a big deal to Harrison, who doesn’t seem to understand why the backlash is so strong.

“It’s not a good look,” Lindsay would explain.

“Well, Rachel, is it ‘good luck’ in 2018, or is it not a ‘good look’ in 2021?” Harrison will answer.

Harrison Will Immediately Apologize To Lindsay And The Bachelor Nation Following His Comments

The backlash Harrison will face is strong, to say the least.

“To my Bachelor family,” Harrison would write in his Instagram apology, “I will always own up to mistakes when I make mistakes, so I’m here to offer my sincere apologies.”

Harrison will apologize to Lindsay for his mistake. At the time of Lindsay’s lead season of “The Bachelorette” and the couple’s “Extra” interview, she was the only black woman to ever lead the franchise. Michelle Young would later have her own season of “The Bachelorette,” which aired the same year Harrison left Bachelor Nation.

Lindsay will talk about Harrison’s various apologies in an episode of her podcast “Higher Learning.”

“I accept this apology, and I think it’s important for me to say it, because I’m not talking about Chris and that statement, because I’m really trying to make this a ‘Chris-versus. -Rachel…” Lindsay said. He also revealed that Harrison’s second apology will happen in an interview with Good Morning America.

Matt James would also later reflect on the incident. She and Kirkconnell ultimately decide not to get engaged at the end of the season, but their decision does not negatively affect their relationship; the couple is still together today.

“My relationship has been turned into a sideshow,” James told the Los Angeles Times, “a complete circus. Rachel and I have moved. We are the only couple from the franchise that is still going strong. The reason is that we will do things at our own pace. We don’t play games that a lot of people play just to stay in that circle.”

Harrison Has Moved On Too, And He’s Talking About The Experience On A New Podcast

Nearly two years after exiting Bachelor Nation and Extra interviews, Harrison is re-entering ‘the circle,’ so to speak.

Last month, The Blast shared news that Harrison was launching a podcast and would discuss his exit from the franchise.

“The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever” will launch its first two episodes on Monday, January 9. While it was practically known Harrison would discuss his departure, he would go in-depth for the first time on the subject.

“I’m heartbroken,” Harrison said. “And I feel frustrated. I feel ashamed. I’m angry at myself. I’m disappointed in myself. The last thing in the world I want to be is to be an agent of anything negative,” she continued via Us Weekly. “Either race-related, or anything, the fact that I’m involved in this and I have a big part in this, I own it.”

Jesse Palmer would later replace Harrison as the franchise’s permanent host. ‘Bachelor’ alum Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe took over hosting duties on an interim basis before Palmer took over.

Harrison would also add that “things definitely spiraled out of control for a number of reasons” following the incident.

A listener will tweet, “Chris Harrison STILL. NO. GET IT. IT. Listen to his podcast. Unreliable.”

Listeners can judge for themselves, as the first two episodes of the podcast are currently streaming.
