A semi truck transporting circus animals burst into flames on an Indiana highway early Saturday morning – freeing camels, zebras and horses to run wild along the pavement.
Troopers scrambled to catch the camel, which was seen in incredible footage running on Interstate 69 as smoke from the trailer billowed in the background.
Unfazed by the chaos, five zebras were seen munching grass nearby as red lights and emergency vehicle sirens blared in the background.

The trailer — loaded with animals — caught fire around 2 a.m. on Interstate 69 in Grant County, about 60 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
Fortunately, two troopers patrolling the area saw the inferno and rushed to escort the animal to safety, according to state police.
“It’s not something we see every day,” said Deputy Brent Resett with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

It took about four hours for officials to put out the fire and reopen the highway – and more importantly, bring the animal under control.
Zebras and camels were eager to eat on the side of the road quickly as fire officials put out the fire. The lone pony didn’t stray far either, making all furry players easily accounted for after the terrifying inferno.

None of the ten animals or their 57-year-old driver were injured in the accident.
The two officers who rushed into the smoking trailer to save the circus animals were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation but were later released.

The truck brought the animals from Florida to Fort Wayne for a four-week circus performance in northeast Indiana benefiting the Mizpah Shrine Circus, said Steve Trump, its circus director.
He said the show is an annual fundraiser for the Mizpah Shrine Circus to help pay for the upkeep of the Shrine Center in Fort Wayne to “allow us to use our other fundraisers for what we know best, taking care of children.”
