Coast Guard rescues 2 people after yacht sinks off South Carolina

Coast Guard rescue teams rescue two people from the water after their yacht capsized in South Carolina.

The Coast Guard said the rescue took place on Friday near the entrance to Teluk Winyah, close to Georgetown.

The mate of a sailor aboard a 44-foot vessel called The Answer My Friend made an emergency call that the yacht needed help.

A good Samaritan at the scene found the ship at the pier partially submerged but could not find the sailors on board.

A helicopter crew helped a Coast Guard vessel locate and recover the two men from the water, and they were treated for shock and hypothermia.

The yacht’s mast and sails can be seen sticking out of the water in images released by the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard did not identify the sailor.

It said the cause of the sinking was still under investigation Saturday and that the ship’s owner would coordinate a rescue.
