Police searching for an “extremely dangerous” killer who escaped from a prison in Pennsylvania blasted an audio message from an inmate’s mother urging her son to turn himself in, as they raced to follow up on his discovery reported on Tuesday.
Danelo Souza Cavalcante, 34, who was serving a life sentence for killing his ex-girlfriend, was released from the Chester County Jail on Thursday, state troopers said.
He has been spotted at least four times within a two-mile radius of Pocopson Township, with local police responding to more than 100 tips from residents — including allegations of possible residential burglaries, 6ABC reported.
One of those sightings happened late Monday, when Cavalcante was seen on surveillance footage on a trail in the woods.
Lt. Col. George Bivens, deputy commissioner of operations for the Pennsylvania State Police, said Monday the agency had taken a lead role in the investigation, bringing in more technology and personnel to aid the manhunt, including playing voice recordings of him. mother from a helicopter surveying the area.
“One of the things we’ve done is we’ve had the individual’s mother make a recording asking him to surrender peacefully,” Bivens said.
“It was broadcast in an effort to facilitate his peaceful handover,” Bivens said, adding that the message was recorded in Cavalcante’s native Portuguese.

Cavalcante was convicted on August 16 of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandao, 38 times in front of their two young children in 2021.
At the time, Bivens said, there was an active warrant for his arrest for another alleged murder in his native Brazil in 2017.
He was sentenced to life in prison without parole last week, and was set to be transferred to a state correctional facility in four weeks, according to 6ABC.
But on Thursday morning, Cavalcante somehow managed to escape from the Chester County Jail, with investigators saying they believe he was headed south.
Authorities are still trying to figure out how he managed to escape.
The killer was seen several times in the area, still wearing prison-issue pants and a light-colored T-shirt – although he was somehow able to acquire a dark backpack, prosecutors said.
One possible sighting came from resident Ryan Drummond, who claimed he saw Cavalcante inside his home around 11:45 Friday night.

“I woke up my wife and said, ‘I think there might be someone downstairs,'” he told 6ABC.
He said after hearing a rustling sound, he rushed to the upstairs landing.
“What I decided to do was flip the switch three or four times, pause, and then he flipped the light switch from downstairs,” Drummond claimed. “It was a moment of ‘Oh my God, this guy’s down there.’”
Drummond said she then made sure her children were still asleep in bed, and saw Cavalcante walk out of the kitchen.
“I saw him come out of the kitchen, through our living room, open the door [and] walked out,” Drummond told a local news outlet. “He wears a white shirt, has a bag.”
Later Saturday, the escaped killer was seen on a residential surveillance camera around 12:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of Lenape Road, about a mile and a half from the jail, Bivens said at a news conference Monday.
A third sighting occurred Sunday afternoon when state troopers saw Cavalcante from a distance and chased after him, Bivens said, but the troopers were unable to catch the fugitive because of terrain and other obstacles.
Bivens said Cavalcante looked a little tired and fatigued during “a very brief appearance.”

Around 6 p.m. Monday, authorities received another report of a possible sighting of Cavalcante — but he was nowhere to be found when police arrived.
And early Tuesday, a law enforcement officer in full tactical gear was seen speeding out of the area near Route 926 and Route 52, after he was spotted on a trail camera in Longwood Gardens at 10:33 the night before, 6ABC reported.
“We’re going to continue this search, we’re going to continue this tough search,” Bivens said at a separate news conference Tuesday morning.
“He’s a bad guy, he needs to be in custody and we’re going to catch him.”
Bivens also said he believes Cavalcante will “slide,” noting: “We got him moving, and that’s a good thing.”

Bivens noted that his team is aware of the stress on the local community, adding that state and local police, along with federal authorities, are working to bring the manhunt to a conclusion as quickly as possible.
Prosecutors also urged residents to stay indoors and lock their vehicles, and to check any surveillance footage for possible sightings of Cavalcante.
“Danelo Cavalcante is considered a very dangerous man,” said a notice from the DA’s office. “Please remain vigilant in assisting this search.
“If you see this individual, do not approach him. Call 911 immediately.”
It remains unclear how Cavalcante entered the US, as immigration officials told Fox News Digital he was not “vetted or received by US immigration officials.”
“Following his arrest in the United States, ICE became aware of his unlawful presence, and an ICE detainer charge was filed against Souza Cavalcante,” an agency spokesperson said.
“ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) from the Philadelphia ERO Field Office is supporting local, state and federal partners with the search for Souza Cavalcante.”
Pennsylvania law enforcement officials and the US Marshals Service are offering a $10,000 reward for Cavalcante.
