A distraught mother and two family members attacked her daughter’s accused killer as she claimed the shameless killer “laughed in my face” during emotional testimony in a Texas courtroom on Tuesday
Frank DeLeon Jr., 19, attended the second day of his murder trial in Houston, where he is accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend, Diamond Alvarez, 16, 22 times in January 2022, when chaos broke out.
Alvarez’s mother, Anna Machado, had just finished her victim impact statement at the trial when she left the stand and headed toward DeLeon before being stopped by a bailiff.
As Machado was being held, Alvarez’s uncle attacked DeLeon and punched the alleged killer several times.
Court staff tackled the man to the floor while DeLeon was taken to a corner, video shot by KHOU from outside the courtroom showed.
Machado tried to rush to his brother’s defense but was stopped by DeLeon’s own mother, who began pushing her counterpart away.

Once the family was separated, Judge Hazel B. Jones ordered the courtroom adjourned.
Machado was one of the relatives who heard gunshots on January 11 and rushed out to the field to find his daughter lying on the ground.
He performed CPR on Alvarez but was unsuccessful.
DeLeon, 17 at the time, was arrested shortly after.

Following the fight, Machado expressed his regret at the court’s anger.
“It’s my fault, it’s our fault, because we’re not monsters,” Machado said outside the courtroom following the fight.
“But it’s very hateful, because I want my daughter back, and what he did was horrible, to see my daughter there and see him, knowing he did that, and he laughed in my face, it was very wrong and I’m sorry for that.”
Machado called out DeLeon about his appearance during the trial, saying he was smiling during his testimony.

“He’s a monster in my eyes. That won’t change. Does he look remorseful at all? Nope. He laughed in my face,” added Machado. “(Like) it’s a joke. Life is not a joke. My daughter is no joke.”
Alvarez’s uncle was arrested and taken away in handcuffs.
It is not known if he has been charged over the incident.
The couple’s relationship ended after Alvarez discovered DeLeon was seeing another girl while the two were still dating.

DeLeon had asked Alvarez to meet at a park the night of the shooting.
DeLeon made his first court appearance Tuesday after missing the first day of his trial Monday, because he was involved in an ATV accident with his uncle on their property and had to be taken to the hospital to be evaluated for head injuries, according to KHOU.
DeLeon accepted a plea deal and faces 45 years in prison, and he will be eligible for parole halfway through his sentence.
