A man dressed as a giant gingerbread man has a community in Virginia under threat after he was seen trying to break into a house, according to a report.
An Arlington County resident told WUSA9 that she was sitting down to dinner with her family Wednesday night when a life-size puff pastry appeared at her front door, standing silently.
“My wife said ‘hey listen, there’s this guy, he’s not ringing the doorbell he’s just standing there and he’s wearing this gingerbread man outfit’ and I’m like, ‘gingerbread man — what?'” the resident said.
He chose to withhold his last name because the “gingerbread man” remains unknown and his motives unclear.
Stunned, he and his wife watched the person using their security camera from inside the house.

“We noticed that the door was being pushed open. We saw the camera I saw this guy in the clothes,” the homeowner told WUSA9.
Unsure of what to do next, she called the police department’s non-emergency line to report the strange encounter.
“I just told them: ‘listen, I just want to report this, it’s not an emergency. A man came in gingerbread men’s clothes,’” he said. ” and they [the operator] is like ‘gingerbread man?’ I was like, ‘yeah gingerbread man clothes. I have the video,’” he said.
About an hour earlier, another resident of the neighborhood, Lindsey Churchill, said she saw the gingerbread man lurking outside her house.
“All of a sudden my dog went crazy barking out the window and I looked out, and there was a huge gingerbread man’s outfit on the sidewalk,” she told WUSA9.
Police said they spoke with a witness who told them the man was looking at a friend’s house. WUSA 9
“We kind of locked eyes and the gingerbread man continued on his way. Very strange,” said Churchill.
“It’s not holly jolly,” he added.
Several other neighbors also reported seeing the costumed creep.
One described the situation as “like a horror movie.”
“In this dress throughout this ordeal, what is the goal? Just to see if we’re home yet? Or enter the house?” they said.
Arlington County Police told the outlet they received reports online of the gingerbread-clad man trying to open the door, but said he walked away after finding it locked.
“A witness approached the subject outside and he reportedly stated he was looking for a friend’s house,” the department said.
Some neighbors told the store they were concerned the police had never spoken to the gingerbread man.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
