It’s been nearly three weeks since his heart attack on the field and Buffalo Bills star Damar Hamlin is still on the road to recovery. The young athlete suffered a heart attack earlier in the year during a game with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Hamlin was immediately rushed to the hospital, after which the game was suspended, delayed, and then canceled. NFL fans have been receiving updates on Hamlin’s health since he was admitted and was notified last week that he was finally cleared.
According to the latest news, the player’s release does not mean that he has fully recovered. Hamlin still needs oxygen from time to time and has visited the hospital several times for check-ups.

Damar Hamlin Has ‘Old’ Recovery Ahead

Although he has been cleared for the past week, Hamlin still has some time to go before he is considered fully recovered. Rooney, the NFL star’s longtime friend and businessman partner, joined him ESPN on Thursday to say that Hamlin “still needs oxygen” and regularly visits the hospital to monitor his heart.
In any case, the footballer was able to see his teammates after leaving the hospital, but he was easily short of breath. Rooney said, “He’s visited the team a few times, but he’s still easy to turn around.”
He also noted that Hamlin still has a “peppy and positive” attitude as he continues his climb toward a full recovery and is determined to “keep pushing through it.”

Sean McDermott, the coach of the Buffalo Bills, as well as Don Dawkins Hamlin’s teammate, seemed to agree with Rooney’s comments about the player’s optimism. In a press conference, McDermott shared that Hamlin has been to the facility almost every day.
Through CNNDawkins said, “The look of it, like walking around here, it’s a positive thing, and [it’s nice] to see Three [Hamlin’s jersey number] just smiling and just waving and just putting his heart out there and keep pushing it.” He described Hamlin as “a bubble of positive energy that just floats around the facility.”
Several Hamlin-themed items have been unveiled since the star’s health scare, ranging from t-shirts to support the UC Medical Center and, most recently, jewelry. The new jewelry was unveiled Thursday and was made in Hamlin’s honor. Each Bills player reportedly got a “3” charm to represent their teammate’s jersey number.
He Has Released From Buffalo Hospital

Last week, Hamlin was declared free to return home and discharged from Buffalo General Hospital. The Buffalo Bills revealed that their star player will spend the rest of his recovery at home with loved ones aside from the obvious regular checkups. Prior to that, Hamlin was hospitalized due to health issues during his team’s football game in early January.
The NFL team’s statement read, “Damar Hamlin has been released from Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute, a Kaleida Health facility in Buffalo, NY.”
It continued, “Hamlin was admitted on Monday and underwent a comprehensive medical evaluation and a series of heart, nerve and vascular tests on Tuesday.” A message from Dr. Jamie Nadler was also quoted, revealing that the decision was made after conducting several tests and evaluations on Hamlin.
Nadler said, “We have completed a series of tests and evaluations, and after consulting with team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely released.”

During the Buffalo Bills’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2, Hamlin fell to the ground. The incident occurred when he tackled Tee Higgins; receivers and the opposing team’s medical staff on the field are directed to him.
As Hamlin’s teammates gathered around him, the NFL star was given CPR and then rushed to the hospital. After the incident, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell explained what caused the fall and Hamlin’s current condition.
He said, “He was then taken to a local hospital where he is in a critical condition. Our thoughts are with Damar and Buffalo Bill. We will provide more information as it becomes available.” The Buffalo Bills also released a statement assuring fans that the athlete is now stable and he has been placed at UC Medical Center.
