The trend was reportedly started this year by Black American TikTok content creators. TikTok users accused the “50 First Dates” actor of behaving like a “colonizer.”
In the unexpectedly controversial clip, the “Never Been Kissed” actress looks happy as she moves in the rain. He wore a pair of glasses, smiled widely, and told his more than 6 million followers to “go into the rain” when they had the chance. Barrymore added, “Don’t miss the opportunity.”

The first video that started the trend was reportedly released in May and was posted by a TikTok handle named @thexsadxoptimistic. The user is shown laughing and running across a field saying, “oh my god, I’m running through a field frolicking!” Several other TikTok users joined the trend with their own versions of frolicking videos, something the app is known for. .

In response to a recent post made by an offended TikTok user, several hundred of Barrymore’s fans defended the 47-year-old, claiming there was no racism in the video. Some admonish people who pay attention to social media users “desperate for views” instead of focusing on other important things.
