David Axelrod warns Biden camp after Trump’s easy Iowa win as Harris vows victory: ‘Get into gear’

Former President Barack Obama’s former campaign strategist David Axelrod said Tuesday that Biden’s re-election team needs to prepare for a tough race against a “terrible” Donald Trump – a day after VP Kamala Harris vowed the Democratic ticket would defeat whoever the Republican nominated. . .

“The president and his campaign need to be prepared and they need a message,” Axelrod told “CNN This Morning.”

“And they need a message that takes not only democracy but the everyday concerns that people have, and they need to claim that every day through every successor,” he added.

Biden’s team has long argued that Trump poses an existential threat to American democracy as he attempts to stay in power after his defeat in the 2020 election.

“Let’s all realize — and Trump proved again yesterday — he’s no ordinary candidate and he’s a pretty formidable candidate,” Axelrod added. “And now he’s on the ballot.”

The longtime Obama ally has been known for his criticism of Biden’s re-election efforts, which has at times angered the White House.

In contrast to Axelrod, Harris struck a bullish tone about Biden’s prospects.

“Let me tell you this: No matter who the Republican candidate is, we won. We won,” Harris told ABC News ahead of the Iowa caucuses.

“Here’s the thing: this election has always been you and me versus the extreme MAGA Republicans. It was true yesterday and it will be true tomorrow,” he wrote on X after Trump’s emphatic victory in the Hawkeye State.

Without dramatic changes, Americans will likely face a Trump-Biden rematch on November 5.
