In an interview with people magazine, Foster, who is a septuagenarian, discussed raising his 20-month-old son, Rennie, with his wife, McPhee.
Admitting that he may not be on earth yet when his son reaches his old age, the music producer feels he has a lot to offer his son beyond a large legacy.
“I think I can offer one thing to Rennie even though I won’t be there when he’s 50 or 40, or 30 maybe,” the 73-year-old told the publication per Page Six. “I think I can offer him wisdom from me [73] years on this planet, and maybe that’s not a bad trade-off. I hope so.”
Foster and McPhee welcomed their bundle of joy last February after nearly three years of marriage. The music veteran previously welcomed five daughters from a previous relationship, Allison, 52; Amy, 49; Sarah, 41; Erin, 40; and Jordan, 36.

Elaborating on her desire to impart the wisdom of her age on her son, Foster shared that this perspective came from living her previous life without “patience.”
“I was impatient when I was young,” he admits. “I’m arrogant and just moving.”
The Grammy Award winner went on to compare raising children in her old age to when she was much younger.
“At this point in my life, it’s different again,” he said. “Not better or worse, just different.”
However, the former Verve Records executive hinted that he places extra value on the time he gets to spend with his son. He added, “I’m still working, I’m still traveling a lot, but maybe that time is a little more valuable to me because I’ve got more runway behind me than I have in front of me now.”

Although having a baby in the early seventies was not a common occurrence, the composer enjoyed the experience.
He revealed to People magazine that welcoming his son didn’t make him regret it, even if it wasn’t something he planned.
“I love every day,” he said. “It’s the standard stuff like, ‘Oh, you’re so young when you have your kids, and you work day and night, you never see them.’ And there is some truth to that, unfortunately, for me [older] children. I just work a lot. Even though I’m working a lot now, I’ll drop anything just to hang out with him. Just different.”

Regarding her “unconventional” relationship with McPhee, Foster shared that she and her partner “go together” despite their age difference.
The music producer likens their link to veteran musician Celine Dion and her late husband, Rene Angelil, who also share a “huge age difference.”
“With Céline and [late husband] René Angélil, there is a big age difference…It looks and feels normal,” he said. “But it was, of course, a bit odd at first.”
He later admitted that the initial strangeness had faded in the years since they had united as one.
McPhee, who is also part of Many people interview, saying, “we just love our history, how we met and where we are now. Sometimes we look at each other like, ‘This is so wild that we’re together.'”
