An employee for Banijay, the company responsible for the game show, recently opened up about the production in an interview with Variety. Lucas Green, chief content officer for the organisation, shared his thoughts on the Duchess of Sussex’s assessment of the programme.

Last year, the former actress reminisced about her days on the US version of “Deal Or No Deal.” The mother of two stated that she left the TV show because it reduced the briefcase model to an “objectified bimbo.”
When asked if he agreed with his statement, Green disputed the 41-year-old’s comments: “No, but we’re always changing the format so it’s not the same as it was 15+ years ago.”
“A lot of work has gone into modernizing our format to ensure it represents our values as a company and the wider community. The UK version, for example, will continue to use people from all walks of life to open boxes [instead of models],” explained the Banijay executive.
Although Green defended the program by pointing out that the UK version did not use the briefcase model in addition to other changes, it is worth noting that Markle’s criticism arose from her time on the US branch of the game show.
During an episode of the media personality’s podcast, “Archetypes,” the Duchess of Sussex recalled her shocking experience on “Deal or No Deal.” While serving as a briefcase model, World Vision Canada’s global ambassador claims she was not appreciated for her intelligence.
Citing his previous job as an “intern at the US Embassy in Argentina in Buenos Aires,” where he worked with treasury security, the 41-year-old explained that his former employer valued his brains. Instead, the game show prioritized her beauty.
“There’s a cookie-cutter idea of what we should look like. It’s purely about beauty – and not necessarily about brains,” the Duchess claimed, noting that the models were prepared to perfection before each show.

Aside from having to sit through different make-up stations, including lashes, extensions and bra padding, to fulfill her purpose on the program, the Los Angeles native recalled the embarrassing behind-the-scenes incident.
“When I look back at that time, I will never forget this one detail – because a few moments before we went on stage,” the media personality began. “There was a woman running the show, and she would be there backstage, and I could still hear her.”
“He couldn’t get my last name right at the time, and I knew who he was talking to because he would say, ‘Markle, suck it! Markle, suck it up!’” the Duchess of Sussex continued.
Although she is grateful for the job, the “Harry & Meghan” star stated that she did not like the emotions she experienced while on the program. “I’m finally going to leave with this pit in my stomach knowing that I’m more than what’s being objectified on stage,” the 41-year-old explained.

Following Markle’s revelations about her time on “Deal or No Deal,” the former actress faced heavy criticism for her opinion. However, Howie Mandel defended the former actress by sharing similar sentiments about the TV show.
The Canadian comedian, who hosted the game show for more than a decade, opened up about the seemingly controversial subject in a 2022 interview. According to the Hollywood Walk of Fame honoree, he doesn’t understand why people make a big deal out of the royal narrative.
“I understand because – I’ve never said this before – but they have a pyramid of 26 beautiful and intelligent women standing there just staring at me like I’m a piece of meat,” the 67-year-old began, noting that he could relate to the feeling ” objective” Markle.
“I’m in the middle, just wearing a suit, and I think I’m better than this. And they’ll look at me, and I don’t have to do anything,” Mandal admitted, revealing that this prompted her to become a judge on “America’s Got Talent.”
