Deaths of soldier, husband and 2 kids found dead at Fort Stewart Army base ruled ‘domestic in nature’

The military identified four families found dead at their military base home in Georgia – ruling that their deaths were “domestic in nature” on Friday.

Staff Sgt. Meiziaha T. Cooper and her husband Desmond Cooper were found with the bodies of their children, ages 4 and 9, on Fort Stewart property on post about 2 p.m. Wednesday, the Army said.

Loved ones identified the children as Juice and Desmond Jr.

The grim discovery was made after Meiziaha Cooper’s unit called for a welfare check.

Military officials did not reveal the family’s cause of death or say who carried out the violence.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Staff Sgt. Cooper’s family, friends and teammates at this very difficult and tragic time,” said 3rd Infantry Division Deputy Operations Commander Col. Jeremy S. Wilson in a statement.

“Our community has been shaken by this unspeakable tragedy and out of respect for the family, we ask for privacy to grieve this loss.”

According to Army officials, Meiziaha Cooper is a decorated culinary noncommissioned officer who joined the military in October 2012.

His awards include four Army Commendation Medals and six Army Achievement Medals.

Her fellow soldiers mourned her as a dedicated and caring colleague, with one fondly calling her “the best working mother anyone could ask for.”

“You showed up for us when you didn’t have to, you made sure you helped us with whatever goals and achievements we wanted to pursue in the military, you were there for us when it came to our personal problems… you were a mentor, a mother but A FRIEND to us inexperienced soldiers,” soldier Michaela Greene mourned on Facebook.

NCO Shan Collier praised Meiziaha Cooper as “one of the greatest blessings God has to offer” Fort Stewart.

“Every (sic) just leans on you, even the soldiers who are not assigned to you. But that’s okay because you always offer love and attention with open arms to everyone regardless. You really changed me for the best. You taught me to be the nurturing, open minded, selfless NCO that I am today and this guy is hurting,” he wrote.

An Army spokesman told The Post that Desmond Cooper is a “prior service veteran,” but declined to comment further on his service or the terms of his discharge.

Despite the domestic ruling, officials have not said whether the incident will be considered a crime.

Fort Stewart is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River and is located about 40 miles southwest of Savannah.

The family’s death is the latest in a string of tragic deaths that have engulfed the Army base.

Last year, Spc. Shay A. Wilson, 28, of Queens, New York, is accused of using a privately owned firearm to fatally shoot 30-year-old Sgt. Nathan Hillman of Plum, Pennsylvania, inside one of the fort building complexes.

Months earlier, a medical evacuation pilot was killed when he crashed his helicopter into another Black Hawk in what officials ruled a suicide.
